part 1 | part 2
THE sun peeked through the curtains of your dorm room, casting a warm glow that made your bed feel like the most comfortable place in all of Hogwarts.
You groaned as you felt someone shaking your bed, a voice calling out urgently.
"Y/N!” They yelled again, the bed shaking more forcefully.
“For fuck’s sake!" you mumbled, sitting up and squinting against the bright light. "What do you want?”
"Wake up!" Dorcas stood there, clearly annoyed. “We have astronomy in two minutes!”
That definitely jolted you awake.
You practically leaped out of bed, catching sight of Dorcas rushing to button her shirt. “Fuck!” you exclaimed, quickly slipping into your tights and skirt.
“Why did nobody wake us up?” you asked, frustration bubbling as you glanced at your roommates. It was a mix of annoyance at them and yourself.
“Bloody fucking twats,” Dorcas muttered. “I’m going to stick my wand so far up their arse once I get to that tower.”
“Count me in,” you replied, hurriedly putting on your shoes—still not fully laced—and adjusting your tie.
You grabbed your book bag. “Come on!” Dorcas urged, already heading for the door.
You both practically ran to the stairs, unready for the most strenuous workout of your life. You both huffed in frustration as the stairs moved.
You looked up at the seemingly endless flights of stairs, frustration boiling over. "These stairs are a fucking safety hazard," You hissed. "Do they not care if we die?"
Dorcas crossed her arms, panting slightly. “Dumbledore is definitely getting my letter of complaints,” She ranted. “I mean, I understand we’re young wizards and witches, but Merlin, are these stairs really bloody necessary?”
You chuckled as the stairs set in place and you both rushed to the top quickly.
You both huffed, clearly out of breath as you both pressed on, each step feeling like a small victory.
With a force of urgency, you opened the door to your Astronomy class as the entire class turned their heads to you. You could hear several students snickering, specifically the Slytherins as you flipped them off.
Professor Adair turned to you both with a sigh. “Nice to see you, ladies. May I gift one of you a watch for Christmas?” He asked sarcastically, prompting a few snickers from the class.
Desperately trying to catch your breath, you replied, “Apologies, Professor. I’m afraid my alarm didn’t go off.” You quickly took your seat next to Sirius, feeling the heat rise in your cheeks.
“Mine too!" Dorcas argued, "And to be fair, I mean this class is pretty high.” She moved next to Dorcas.
Professor Adair rolled his eyes, continuing with the class with a mutter about the two of you.
“You know,” Sirius leaned into you, “If you need a proper alarm-“ He slyly said, hand almost touching your thigh.
You stomped on his leg as he groaned, touching the injured limb.
“Note taken.” He hissed.
You smirked as you started writing down a note in your notebook which you made into a paper plane, flying it over to Lily.
She looked at you hesitantly, opening it.
Why did you not wake me or Dorcas up?
She looked at you, looking confused as the angry look on your face never faded. She began writing down her response which she sent to you.
Emma told us all that she would wake you both up and when she came to Astronomy, she said she did.
A fuse blew inside of you, of course Emma was behind this. It makes sense that she would be the one to do it considering how she treated your entire friend group.
For context, Emma was all of your supposed “best friend” which would be a fine label if she didn’t sabotage anyone who she thought was a threat.
At first, she considered Lily a threat because of how much others loved her especially James Potter. So instead of asking Lily to put a good word in for her with the others and James, she started spreading horrid rumors about her.
And everyone being cruel teenagers believed her, berating her wherever she went.
It took the entire girl group and the Marauders to make people back off and debunk these rumors.
Although you and the rest of the girls knew that Emma had done this, she had gaslighted Lily into thinking that it was obviously some bitter Slytherin that were jealous instead of her and eventually, the situation turned boring and died down into nothing.
But that wasn't even the end.
Soon after, she considered Mary a threat due to how smart and confident she was and decided to get her absolutely hammered before OWL'S.
And it caused her to get a poor score which resulted in her not leaving her bed for weeks.
But again, Mary had blamed herself and told everyone that it was "her stupid decision" that led to this.
After that, it had been Marlene.
Then suddenly, it had been Dorcas.
And now you were clearly her new target for what reason? Merlin knows.
The only reason she didn't wake Dorcas up was because she knew she couldn't single you out. Emma knew you disliked her from the moment you met her and you weren't as nice about it.
Now, you may not know why she was targeting you at the present moment but the boy in front of you laughing with Remus could've been a huge clue.
James Potter.
Golden Boy, Heart-throbber, Fit, Kind, Funny, Brave, Determined, Bold.. I mean did you really have to go on?
The man that Emma had been in love with for years and had been dating for the present moment.
And not only was no girl allowed to approach James without dealing with Emma but she would pay hell for even making eyes at him.
Unfortunately for you, James had been struggling a bit for charms and enlisted your help in studying. At first, you had gave him a 'fuck no' before moving in order to not get his girlfriends wrath but when he pleaded and begged,
You forfeited.
You were hoping that he would keep it a secret but James being the dumbass he is mentioned how much of a good time it was to the entire group, Emma grew as red as a tomato.
You mentally cursed James, knowing that your life was already going to become a living hell.
Fortunately, you kept most stuff to yourself and never confided in Emma with anything.
There was nothing that Emma could do to incriminate you with but you just knew that she wouldn't back down and there was nothing you could do.
You did do your best to keep away from her but Lily couldn't stop hanging out with her which made the rest of your group completely vulnerable.
At the same time, you couldn't blame Lily for being so gullible and kind-hearted but it made her a pushover and Emma could guilt trip her way out of anything.
So if Emma was going to play this game, you were alone.
And you had to be the best player.
The bell chimed, bring you out of thought as you began packing up.
Emma came over to you, "Y/N! I'm so sorry that I didn't try harder to wake you and Dorcas." She hummed, "I thought you were fully up by time the time I left." She faked a sincere smile.
"Yeah Emma, I think it would be best if you never enlist yourself to such a task again, I'm afraid it requires a bit more of a brain hmm?" You sweetly said, leaving the conversation as she scowled towards you.
You rushed over to Remus, "Remus, please tell me you have the notes for this class." You pouted, grabbing ahold of his arm.
"Of course." He told you, beginning to grab his notebook out of his book-bag.
"Thank you so much," You gratefully said as you began walking with them.
"Wait, why didn't you ask me?" Sirius asked, pouting.
You let out a snort, "Have you seen your handwriting?" You derided as James and Peter laughed.
Sirius fake sniffled, "One day Y/N, you will appreciate my beauty and brains." Sirius dramatically hair flipped.
"You know there's nothing up there." James said, knocking on Sirius's head as Sirius swatted his hand.
You rolled your eyes as Remus handed over his notebook to which you thanked him with a kiss on his cheek.
"Hey! Wheres mine?" Peter asked, "I gave you the notes for potions."
You rolled your eyes again, giving Peter a peck on the cheek as well.
Your eyes locked onto Sirius, already knowing what he was gonna say, "Well, you just insulted me, I think you owe me one." Sirius said, tapping his cheek.
You clenched your jaw, pecking his cheek quickly as he grinned from ear to ear.
"Wait where's mine?" James asked as your eyes widened, "Don't wanna be left out," He fake sniffled.
"Your girlfriend will quite literally harvest my organs." You scarily said, putting the notebook in your bag.
"It's just a kiss on the cheek!" He argued as the whole group shook their head.
"Mate, I'm going to have to agree with her on this one," Sirius patted James on the back, "She will bloody kill Y/N and us for letting it happen." Sirius said.
There was a rumble of protest in his throat but a part of him knew that you both were right. He didn't want you to be faced with the fire on Emma based on his actions.
"Fine, guess you guys are right," He muttered as he dragged his feet.
You groaned, reaching over to James and pecking him on the cheek as he grinned.
“Everyone's been kissed now,” you sighed, your voice trailing off in frustration. “Can we just—” But before you could finish, a sharp voice sliced through the air.
“Y/N!” Emma screeched, her anger prominent as the group recoiled, hissing in surprise. She stormed toward you, her face flushed with rage.
You were begging Merlin that she hadn't seen the peck you gave to James.
“Did you just kiss my boyfriend?” She laughed harshly, her grip tightening on James's arm as he shot you an apologetic look, guilt written all over his face.
“Oh, maybe it was Sirius instead?” You quipped, trying to deflect with a joke, but Peter’s snort only deepened the tension.
“Real clever,” Emma shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she stepped closer, invading your space. “A good friend wouldn’t do that, Y/N. I don’t take betrayal lightly.” Her tone was sharp, a warning laced within it.
You matched her intensity, moving closer until your breaths mingled as you spoke, “And I don’t take threats lightly.”
“Okay, let’s all just calm down!” Sirius intervened, wrapping an arm around your waist while James did the same to Emma, but the heat between you and Emma crackled like a campfire, neither of you backing down.
“It was just a peck, sweetheart,” James cooed, wrapping an arm around Emma as you rolled your eyes, arms crossed in disbelief.
Emma pouted, “You know how protective I get about you.” She nestled into his chest, and the sight made your stomach churn.
“I know, baby,” he said with a smile, holding her close, while the rest of the Marauders looked on, barely able to stomach the scene unfolding before them.
“As entertaining as this little drama is, I need to get ready for the party tonight,” you announced, desperate for an escape.
"The party isn't until tonight!" Peter said, confused.
"Mentally prepare!" You joked.
“Wait!” Emma’s voice pierced through your thoughts just as you turned to leave, and you sighed, bracing yourself for her next act.
Her expression shifted, all sweetness now. “I’m sorry for misreading things with James,” She said, feigning concern. “I know you’ve never had a boyfriend,” She added, her tone dripping with condescension. “But, you can get a bit... jealous. But we’re friends, right? So I shouldn’t act like that.”
You clicked your tongue, suppressing the urge to roll your eyes even harder.
“And as your friend,” She whispered, pulling you into a tight hug, “I just want to warn you. If you so much as talk to James at the Gryffindor party tonight, I’ll make your life a living hell.”
She released you, her smile wide and disingenuous, and before you could even muster a response, she skipped back to James, leaving you fuming.
Fury coursed through your veins as her words echoed in your mind, the unfairness of it all burning like a fire inside you.
Ever since Emma had walked into your life, she had fucked with everything around you.
Your friends, your reputations, your social life, hell even your sanity.
And if nobody else was gonna put a stop to her.
You guess it would have to be you.
-----------
Are you really ready to wage war with her?” Dorcas chimed in from the closet, her tone skeptical.
“Dorc,” You began, frustration creeping into your voice. “Emma has been terrorizing us since third year. Are you seriously going to tell me that taking her down doesn’t sound appealing?”
She sighed, contemplating. “Okay, fine, you’ve got a point. But how exactly are you planning to take her on?”
A sly smirk crept across your face as you revealed the outfit you’d picked: a black corset paired with the shortest black skirt you could find, topped off with fishnets. Dorcas’s jaw dropped sarcastically. “So, you’re going to out-dress her?” She asked, incredulous.
“No,” You replied, rolling your eyes. “I’m going to use her worst fear against her. I’m going to seduce James.”
Dorcas nearly choked. “Do you have a death wish?”
“Listen, I would never usually even consider looking at another girl’s boyfriend, but this is different. James is the one thing that will shatter her, and honestly, it sounds cruel, but so is she!” You shot back, your resolve hardening.
“And if she tells the whole school what you’re doing, you’ll look like a homewrecker and be exiled,” Dorcas countered.
“Which is why it has to look like it’s all James’s idea,” You insisted, undeterred. “He’s been my friend since childhood; it’ll look innocent.”
“I don’t think this idea is as foolproof as you think,” Dorcas muttered, slipping into her red dress with an exasperated sigh.
“Dorc, trust me, she can’t hurt me,” You reassured her, the fire in your belly fueling your confidence.
“Well, if everything goes south,” Dorcas said with a reluctant smile, “I’ve got your back.”
You beamed at her. “What would I do without you?”
Just then, a loud bang echoed on your door. “Hurry up before all the firewhiskey is gone!” Marlene called, her voice a mix of urgency and excitement.
You and Dorcas shared a laugh, gathering your belongings and heading down to the common room, adrenaline buzzing in the air as you prepared to face the chaos of the night ahead.
The lively atmosphere of the common room was a familiar backdrop for you all; it felt like there was always a party, whether an event warranted it or not. You, Marlene, and Dorcas scanned the room and spotted your usual crew gathered around the couch. With a burst of energy, you hopped right next to James.
His eyes widened in surprise as he took in your outfit, but before he could say anything, Sirius swooped in.
“Y/N, have I ever told you how much I’m attracted to you?” He drawled, causing you to snort.
“Eyes off, Black,” You shot back playfully, just as Marlene whacked him with a pillow.
“Why do I even try?” He lamented, sinking dramatically into his chair.
Marlene grinned mischievously. “You know, I’d sleep with you, Black.”
Sirius’s eyes went wide. “Really?”
“Yeah, if you pay me and wear a cloak,” She teased, sending the group into fits of laughter.
Sirius scowled at Marlene while Lily pinched his cheeks, only for him to swat her hands away with a playful glare.
“You do look good, Y/N,” James murmured, his voice sincere.
You turned to him, arching an eyebrow. “Now what did I do to deserve a compliment from James Potter?”
He chuckled softly. “Well, after what I put you through this morning, I think you deserve more than just a compliment.”
“Speaking of this morning,” you leaned in closer, lowering your voice, “Where’s your girlfriend?”
James shrugged, a hint of frustration flickering across his face. “We got into a fight after you left. I tried to talk to her about her manners,” he said, his tone casual but the weight behind his words was clear.
“But you guys were literally snuggling when I left,” You laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yeah, well, that was before I realized how messed up her behavior was. Jus'... embarrassing, you know?” He gulped down his drink, and you couldn’t help but notice the guilt etched on his face.
It twisted your heart, seeing him upset. James was your best friend, and the thought of anyone hurting him made your stomach churn.
You hated seeing him like this, torn between loyalty and the flaws of the person he cared for. It felt like a heavy weight was pressing down on both of you, and all you wanted was to lift it.
"Well," You spoke as he looked at you, "If you want me to forgive you, I think a dance would do," You said, standing up and extending a hand to him.
A goofy smile plastered on his face, James said, "Anything for M’lady’s forgiveness."
You scrunched your nose at his corniness as he took your hand and led you onto the dance floor. He twirled you around, making you giggle before pulling you back in to sway together.
"You’re such a dork," You snickered.
"And how many years have I proven that to you?" He shot back, laughter in his voice as you rested your head on his shoulder.
His fingertips grazed your back while you swayed, and he whispered in your ear, "I miss us hanging out."
Outside of Charms tutoring and classes, you never got to see James and it always hurt you. You both knew why you couldn’t and voicing it would only make it worse.
But it had been hard not having a proper hangout with just the both of you since third year.
You felt warmth spread through you, flustered. "I miss hanging out with you too."
Looking at him, you noticed how beautiful he looked—his messy hair and that infectious grin. There was always a gleam in his eye, and everything about him radiated warmth. It felt like summer when you were together, and butterflies filled your stomach.
You knew he was just your best friend, nothing more. And that would always be the truth, as long as you told yourself that.
Suddenly, James twirled you again, but this time you spun out of his grip and fell onto the suddenly slippery floor.
You fell with a hiss, "Shit!" you moaned, wincing in pain as James rushed over with the rest of the group, the crowd parting to give you space.
"What the fuck happened?" Sirius asked, concern etched on his face.
"I don't know!" James replied, kneeling beside you. "She just slipped!"
You hissed as you tried to stand on your sprained ankle.
"Let me see," James muttered, inspecting your foot as you groaned.
"Maybe it's her leg," Marlene added.
"Well duh," Sirius shot back, earning a playful hit from Marlene.
"Can we just get her to Pomfrey?" Lily huffed, and the boys nodded in agreement.
Sirius tried to rush over to you, but James waved him off. "I got her," he said, lifting you bridal-style.
You winced at the jolt to your ankle, nuzzling into his neck as you caught a glimpse of Emma in the back of the room, her expression burning with rage.

SITTING in the Hospital Wing for the rest of your glamorous night was certainly not on your bucket list for the year.
You couldn't believe that while your friends were most likely on their next shot of Firewhiskey, there you were, sitting with an ice pack on your ankle and a yellow, now turning purple, bruise resting below it.
The scowl on your face couldn’t be more defined before a gentle squeeze on your forearm snapped you out of your angered thoughts.
A sweet, warm James sat beside you, his comforting smile as kind as ever. You gave him a shy smile in return, reluctant to admit that his presence made you feel just a little bit better.
"You know, you don’t have to stay here," You said, voice soft but sincere. "You don’t have to stay out of pity for me while the rest of our friends are probably on their fourth round of Truth or Dare." You snorted, trying to make light of it.
James lightly laughed, the sound warm and comforting. "I wanna be here," He replied sweetly, making your heart swell despite yourself. "I mean, I am partly to blame for your injury."
You snickered, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, your vicious twirling of me is definitely what did it."
He yawned dramatically. "Yeah, I’m so strong," He flexed one arm with exaggerated pride, earning a laugh from you as you playfully swatted at him.
"Well, dearie!" Madame Pomfrey exclaimed, appearing suddenly from the patient beside you. "It seems it’s just a deep bruise—nothing a bit of Bruisewart Balm won’t fix," She stated, handing you the small jar of balm. "I’d recommend taking it easy on your feet for a day or two, but nothing too strenuous."
"Thank you, Madame Pomfrey," You smiled as she nodded and moved on to her next patient.
"And to prevent more bruising," Pomfrey added with a sly smile, "I’d recommend staying away from Mr. Potter over here."
James frowned. "Oh Pops, how you wound me!" He said dramatically, making Pomfrey roll her eyes and walk away.
The tension in the room lifted, but as James turned back to you, the air between you two shifted. You met his gaze, and for the first time, you noticed the way his eyes seemed to sparkle, how the dim light of the Hospital Wing made them look even more intense. You felt your heart race in your chest as he cleared his throat.
"Well, it seems like you won’t need to stay overnight," James said, a little too casually, his voice softer than usual. "May I help you hop back to your dorm m'lady?" His hand extended out for you.
You blinked at him, a little surprised at his suggestion. "What a gentleman," You mocked, though your voice was lighthearted as he helped you carefully get to your feet, his hand steady at your waist and the small of your back.
You both started down the hallway, his support a comforting presence as you tried to regain your balance on your injured ankle.
"You know Emma’s going to kill me, right?" You said with a dry chuckle.
James huffed in response, his arm still around you. "She’s really not as deadly as you all make her out to be," he said lightly.
You scoffed, shaking your head. "I think there’s a reason all the girls in sixth year have stayed away from you, and it isn’t because of your looks or personality."
James laughed, but there was a tinge of embarrassment in his eyes. "Well, she’s just really protective, you know?" He helped you adjust your step as you hopped slightly, trying to stay balanced. "She cares about me."
You raised an eyebrow. 'Protective doesn’t mean bat-shit crazy,' You thought to yourself.
"But I am sorry for how she’s been treating you," James continued, his voice turning a little more serious. "We broke up over it, you know?"
You didn’t know how to respond. You’d heard they’d had a fight, but you hadn’t realized it had escalated to that point.
"Over me?" you asked, a little surprised.
"Yeah," He nodded, his voice almost sheepish. "I know we haven’t talked much in the last couple of years, but you’ve always meant a lot to me, you know? So, when she gave me that choice—you or her—I thought it was a load of bollocks, but in the end, I think it was what we both needed. To take a step back, I mean."
You felt your stomach twist at his words. You knew their relationship had always been complicated, but hearing it from him like this was not what you had expected.
"And how did she take that?" You asked, trying to keep your voice even.
James’s face softened, but there was a faint trace of sadness in his expression. "She yelled. Cursed me out for a bit, slammed the door, and I haven’t seen her since."
You nodded, processing his words. You hoped to feel happy and to be excited, but you only felt sadness for James. Despite your dislike for Emma, he had seemed to actually enjoy her presence.
And all you ever wanted for James was for him to be happy even if it meant the literal Anti-christ being his girlfriend.
"Well," You said quietly, "I'm sorry to hear that."
James looked over at you, his lips curling into a soft smile. "Thanks."
The silence stretched between you two as you hobbled along the corridor. You could feel the weight of his words hanging in the air, and something about it made your heart beat a little faster.
"Can I ask you something?" You ventured, glancing up at him.
"Anything," James replied, his voice sincere.
"Why didn’t you ever... you know, talk to me about this before? You’ve been kind of distant, and—" You cut yourself off, not wanting to sound too accusatory.
James gave a small, rueful chuckle. "Guess I was just stupid, huh?" He looked over at you, his expression thoughtful. "I always figured things would work themselves out, and we would get closer in the future. But maybe I was wrong or just scared of Emma." He lightly laughed.
You didn’t quite know how to respond to that, so you stayed quiet for a moment, your mind racing. The conversation felt like it was drifting toward a place you weren’t sure you were ready for, but at the same time, a part of you felt like you needed the conversation.
As you approached the Gryffindor Tower entrance, you could see the Fat Lady’s portrait in the distance, and the familiar weight of the evening was starting to settle back into place.
"This is me," You said, trying to keep your tone light as you stopped in front of the portrait.
"Yeah," James replied softly, a bit quieter now like he didn’t want the moment to end. "But, you know, if you ever need anything—"
"I know where to find you," You said, a teasing smile playing on your lips.
James looked at you for a long moment, and for just a beat, it felt like everything between you two shifted again. His eyes were intense, but there was something more in them now, something that made your heart flutter.
"Yeah," he said, voice barely above a whisper, "You do."
You turned toward the Fat Lady, trying to mask the sudden rush of emotions coursing through you. You gave her the password, and as the portrait swung open, you took a last glance at James.
"Night, James," You said, your voice soft.
"Goodnight," he replied, his gaze lingering on you as you stepped inside.
And for a brief moment, you couldn’t help but wonder, maybe there was more to your friendship than you’d ever realized.
--
"He said what?!" Dorcas yelled excitedly, her voice carrying across the otherwise quiet Great Hall. You quickly shushed her, eyes darting around the room to make sure no one was watching. It was way too early for this kind of drama.
You had both decided to wake up an hour earlier than all the other girls for two very important reasons: 1) You didn’t trust Emma, and 2) You really didn’t trust Emma.
A few third-years glanced up from their breakfast, clearly curious about the outburst. You snorted, trying to hide your smile as you took another bite of toast.
"And what did you say?" Dorcas asked, her eyes practically sparkling with curiosity.
"Nothing," You muttered, refusing to meet her gaze as you stared off into the distance.
"What do you mean you said nothing?!" She questioned loudly, banging her hand against the table with enough force to rattle your plate.
You grabbed her hands quickly, trying to calm her down. "Stop doing that!" You whispered, sending apologetic glances to the third-years who were now staring openly at you.
"I just mean you had a perfect opportunity to get back at Emma, get Potter on your side, and you said nothing?!" Dorcas exclaimed, her voice rising with the excitement of her accusation.
You sighed, guilt twisting in your stomach. "I can’t do that to him, Dorc," You said quietly.
She stared at you for a long moment, clearly processing your words. There was a flash of realization in her eyes before she grinned, her voice dropping to a teasing whisper. "You like him!"
You felt your face heat up as you rolled your eyes. "I do not."
"You do," She sang, drawing out the words like she was taunting a child.
"I do not," You said firmly, refusing to let her win.
"But you do—"
"I do not!" You interrupted, suddenly shouting, not even bothering to care about the third years who were now openly staring at you.
Dorcas smirked in victory. "Yeah, sure you don’t."
You groaned, dropping your head into your hands. "This can’t be happening to me. It’s been one day since the plan was made!" You whined, half-exasperated, half-amused.
Dorcas gently pried your hands away from your face, her fingers rubbing soothing circles into your knuckles. "You can’t just hold your feelings in. If you like Potter, then so what?" She said gently, trying to comfort you. "Better than that evil witch."
You snorted at that. "I can't, Dorcas. I refuse to like someone who has the craziest ex-girlfriend in all of girlfriend history."
She sighed dramatically, looking at you as if you were the most difficult person in the world. "So what’s your master plan now, huh? Avoid him forever?"
You put on a fake, thoughtful face. "Avoid him," You pondered with a smile. "It’s the only option. Great idea, Dorc!"
Dorcas huffed, shaking her head as she took her hands away from yours. "Yeah, maybe just avoid him," She muttered, clearly not sold on your brilliant plan.
You laughed and stabbed a fork into your eggs. "Exactly."
Before Dorcas could reply, a voice slid in beside her, smooth and familiar. "Isn’t it the prettiest ladies I’ve had the honor of seeing as I awake?" Sirius Black drawled, grinning widely. Dorcas immediately shot him a disgusted look, scooting a few inches away from him.
"What do you want, Black?" You asked, already annoyed before he could even open his mouth again.
"Why do you treat me so horribly when I just want your love?" Sirius exclaimed dramatically, clutching his chest as if you had wounded him deeply.
You couldn’t help but laugh lightly at his antics.
"Are all of the Marauders this dramatic?" Dorcas asked, still eyeing Sirius in distaste.
"Believe it or not, yes," You confirmed, just as someone slid into the seat beside you.
"Good morning," James Potter greeted, flashing you that same sweet smile you had trouble getting out of your head.
You immediately felt a flutter in your chest. Your throat seemed to dry up as you turned to look at him. He looked radiant this morning—like the sun itself had decided to take residence in his smile.
You gulped, your brain scrambling for words. You quickly glanced at Dorcas, who gave you a subtle shake of her head, silently telling you not to do anything rash.
"Morning!" you rushed out, way too eager. You quickly gathered your things, mentally panicking. "I actually have to go study in the library for a while, so I’m just gonna go ahead." You stood quickly, trying to make your escape.
James stood up with you, looking at you with those shining eyes. "I can come with," He offered cheerfully, clearly not reading the room at all.
You shook your head rapidly, desperate to escape the conversation. "No, no! I’ll be fine!" you said a little too quickly, almost tripping over your own feet as you backed away. "I’ll just see you later."
James and Sirius exchanged a curious glance as you rushed off. You breathed a sigh of relief the moment you stepped out of the Great Hall and into the corridor.
Finally, peace and quiet.
But then you heard footsteps behind you. You glanced over your shoulder and saw James Potter jogging to catch up.
"Hey!" He called out, clearly not bothered by your earlier panic. "I decided to come with you since I’ve got nothing to do. Figured we could walk to class together after studying." He said it so cheerfully as if you hadn’t just escaped from his company a few moments ago.
You blinked, speechless. You hadn’t expected him to follow you. You didn’t think it would be this hard to get James Potter off your back.
He matched your pace, the two of you walking side by side in the silence that felt anything but comfortable.
And you couldn’t help but wonder, just for a moment, if your life had just become infinitely more complicated than you had planned.
"So, what did you need to study?" James asked, his hands casually tucked into his pockets as he looked at you with that easygoing grin of his.
You quickly scrambled for an answer, the pressure of his gaze making your mind race. "Astronomy!" You replied a bit too quickly, the excitement in your voice betraying your nerves.
"But you've always been good at Astronomy," James raised an eyebrow, his gaze skeptical as he studied you closely.
You tried to shrug it off, but your voice betrayed you. "I'm afraid the subject's been slowly slipping from me," You said, forcing a smile.
His face softened, the skepticism fading into a more understanding look. "Yeah, Professor Sinistra does tend to move quickly," He said, nodding in agreement. "I even tried to cast a time-slowing spell on her once just to get down all my notes."
You laughed, the image of James trying (and likely failing) to slow down the Professor amusing. "And what did you get in return?" you asked, a teasing grin playing on your lips.
"Two weeks of detention," He said, smirking as if the whole thing was just a funny memory. "Totally worth it though."
You giggled, the sound feeling lighter in your chest. "Of course it was."
You both walked in silence next to each other, making your way towards the library. You were glad that the silence was comfortable but a part of you still thought avoiding James was the best plan.
You went to sit at a table before James rushed over to you, pulling your chair out for you as you rolled your eyes, "Do you just want me to keep calling you a gentleman?"
"A bit," He shrugged as he sat down across from you.
You opened your textbook for Astronomy, actually deciding to do work since you were there anyways.
You noticed James making paper planes and attempting to get them to fly over your head. By the fourth one, it hit you square in the forehead, and you let out a dramatic sigh.
"Do you need me to give you a task?" You asked, eyeing him with a look that could only be described as 'toddler supervision.'
James rested his head on his palm, his gaze staring off into space. "I just think there are more exciting things we could be doing right now," He replied with a bored sigh.
"Like what?" You asked, raising an eyebrow and offering him a light smile.
He thought for a moment, then his eyes lit up with mischief. "I could teach you how to play Quidditch!"
You almost felt sick just hearing the words. You shook your head furiously. "I don't know about that," You said, looking back down at your textbook as if you could will the conversation away.
James grabbed your hand in an exaggerated plea. "Come on, it'll be fun!" He cheered, his enthusiasm making you laugh, but before you could say anything else, the librarian shushed him with a fierce look.
You giggled quietly, "Sorry, James, no," You said firmly, scribbling some notes in your textbook.
James pouted dramatically, laying his head down on the desk in defeat. You studied him for a few moments as he huffed, like a child who hadn't gotten his way.
You rolled your eyes, unable to resist the pull of his antics. "I'm not falling for this."
He continued to pout, his face scrunched in exaggerated misery. He pretended to sniffle dramatically, looking up at you with his big hazel eyes.
"No, James, I mean it," You said, trying to keep your tone firm, but the warmth in your voice betrayed you.
--
And next thing you knew, you were on the Quidditch field.
You yelped loudly as you clung to James’s waist, the wind rushing in your face as he zoomed higher into the sky. "We haven't even made it into the air yet!" James laughed excitedly, clearly having the time of his life as you panicked.
"This is still really high!" You cried out, your grip tightening around him. You dared a glance down and saw the ground growing smaller and more distant by the second.
"Close your eyes, I’ve got you!" James shouted reassuringly, though it still sounded somehow delicate, soothing you.
With a deep breath, you squeezed your eyes shut and gripped him even tighter. The wind whipped around you, but James’s steady hold kept you grounded—physically, at least. When you opened your eyes, the sensation of rising fast into the air filled you with a mix of excitement and dread.
James cheered as you both soared, flipping through the air and spiraling in wide, dizzying motions. You screamed, the wind filling your lungs with cold, sharp air.
But then, as if sensing your panic, James calmed things down, steering the broom to glide slowly over the Black Lake.
You exhaled a long breath, your heart rate slowing as you took in the view. From this height, the lake looked more beautiful than you'd ever seen it before, its surface sparkling in the early morning light.
You rested your cheek against his back, staring down at the glistening water below. "This is really pretty," You murmured, surprised at how peaceful it felt up here.
James chuckled lightly. "It's one of my favorite things to look at when I ride." He smiled, but you could feel his warmth, even through the rush of wind. When you lifted your head to look at him, he glanced back with a grin that seemed to make your heart skip a beat.
"Is this where you disappear to during Quidditch games when you're supposed to be looking for the snitch?" You joked, a teasing lilt in your voice.
James's eyes widened dramatically. "You've figured me out!" he yelled, a laugh bursting from him before he abruptly swerved the broom again, causing you both to spiral upward with another whoosh of wind.
You screamed as you were whipped through the air, but James’s laughter was all you could hear. He cheered as the wind carried you higher, and you couldn’t help but laugh, even as you felt the thrill and panic collide inside you.
Seeing James so excited, gliding through the air, eased most of your fear. His laughter, the way he moved so effortlessly—it was impossible not to feel lighter in his presence.
You hadn’t realized until now how much you wanted to see someone smile like that, so carefree and alive. His joy was infectious, and it made you feel like maybe you were starting to enjoy this too.
James’s grin widened when he saw the way you were watching him. “See? Told you it’s fun up here,” he said, his voice full of that same infectious enthusiasm. He spun the broom gently, making you feel the rush of wind again, and for the first time, you didn’t mind it.
You met his gaze, a soft smile tugging at your lips. “Yeah, it’s amazing up here,” You admitted.
James’s smile softened as he gently lowered both of you to the ground. You carefully dismounted the broom, your legs still a little shaky from the ride.
As James went to put the broom back in its rightful place, you glanced at your watch—(yes, you had actually bought one)—and your heart dropped. "Shit! James, we’re going to be late!" You yelled, rushing toward him.
He immediately sprinted over as you tossed his bag at him with a hurried "Sorry!" You grabbed yours, slinging it over your shoulder before running up the stairs.
After what felt like an eternity of climbing, you stopped at the first landing to catch your breath.
James huffed, leaning on the railing. "Maybe we should just skip," He suggested, looking at you with a mischievous glint.
You shot him a death glare as the stairs shifted back into place, urging him to hurry. "Not an option, Potter!"
You both barely made it to class, arriving two minutes late. Professor Adair gave you both a disappointed look and gestured to the empty seats in the front. The entire class seemed to turn toward you, exchanging curious glances.
James leaned over and whispered, "Hey, you did great today."
You flushed, feeling a little flustered. "Thanks," You mumbled, half of you still recovering from the flying.
"Think I can have a spot on the team?" You asked, grinning at him.
James grinned back. "Oh, for sure. Your flying skills are impeccable," He said, his tone light and teasing.
"Be careful, Potter. I might take your spot as Seeker." You nudged him, half-joking, but his hand squeezed your thigh lightly in response.
You were about to respond when you saw your friends walking toward you, with Emma trailing behind them. The glare she shot you could've melted stone, and you couldn't help but feel a bit of unease.
"And why were you two late?" Lily asked, her voice mock-stern.
"Well, Mom, we were out flying," James said with a dramatic pout, making you laugh.
Lily looked at you, wide-eyed. "You went flying?"
"How did you make her do that?" Remus asked, half-sitting on his chair in front of you as Sirius snored, head resting on his shoulder.
"I don’t think I’ve ever even seen Y/N jump ," Marlene chimed in, snickering.
You shot her a look, but the corner of your lips twitched. "It was a one-time thing."
"Oh, yeah?" James smirked, nudging you with his shoulder. "I think there’s still more flying to do," He teased, and you giggled.
Your friends exchanged suspicious glances, but Emma’s sour expression cut through the moment. She stepped forward, eyes fixed on James, her voice syrupy sweet. "Well, we’re thinking about going to Hogsmeade tonight," she said, ignoring you completely.
"Sounds fun," You said casually, but Emma’s smile faltered slightly.
Sirius yawned, not looking up from where he was practically asleep on Remus’s shoulder. "So, are you two in?"
James looked at you with a grin. "If M’lady is."
"Sure, why not?" You responded lightly.
Emma looked like she was about to cast the Killing Curse right there, but she held it together, forcing a fake smile. "Great, it’s a date," She said, her eyes burning into you.
You had a feeling that tonight was going to be very interesting.
it was no secret that james potter wanted to fuck you. it was an almost well known fact in your year. many people wanted to know why he wanted to fuck you, some completely questioning their existence.
there was no doubt that you were attractive, most boys in your year wanted the chance to be the ones to fuck you but you never let them.
the question everyone mostly asked was why you wouldn't let him. he was extremely attractive and his personality was a turn on in itself so why wouldn't you let him fuck you?
you had your own reasons.
james potter was childish at points. people only saw what they wanted to see but the people with brains actually knew that james could be a prick.
ever since lily evans started dating a girl in her year, he stopped pining after her and realized she may not be the one.
but you didn't understand his obsession with you or her.
and james did have his own reasons.
long story short, he saw you in sixth year, completely naked. your body hadn't left his mind even a little bit. he had tried fucking multiple other girls and even trying something new but you wouldn't leave his mind.
you were getting sick of his constant eyes and of the marauders begging you to fuck him, just to stop hearing him. it was extremely tiring and there was no more time for it.
you didn't feel peer pressure but you just wanted him to get over it.
so you did what you had to.
you went up to james, "i'll fucking do it."
he looked at you in utter shock, "do what?" he said with a smirk.
you rolled your eyes, "i'll fuck you potter."
the look in his eyes was something you wouldn't forget but you didn't have time to waste so you grabbed his wrist, leading him to his own dorm.
you made it inside as you started stripping, "are you sure about this?" he asked, a bit nervous.
"if you really think fucking me will be that good then i will do it." you answered quickly, stripping down to your panties and bra.
his breath was caught, "you are so fucking hot." he inched closer to you as you found it hard to breathe.
he touched your skin so softly and he was warm.
suddently, his lips crashed onto yours causing you to be gasp. he stuck his tongue in your mouth and collided it with your tongue.
he was completely devouring you as he unstrapped your bra which made you even more surprised.
you laid on the bed as he started taking off his shirt and pants. after, he completely tore your underwear in half, "i'll fix it later." he was completely nude and so were you.
he continued kissing your lips as he kissed down to your cunt, licking the bud as you moaned.
"fuck." you said, grabbing onto his soft curls.
he started devouring you so fast that you couldn't concentrate. his nose hit your clit which caused you to moan as you were about to come.
"you taste so fucking good." he growled into your pussy which caused vibrations as you almost came right there and then.
he licked harder, adding more assault to your puffy cunt. you were about to come before he stopped and looked up at you, "not yet."
you frowned but wanted him to get whatever he needed to out of his system.
you looked down at his cock which was above average noticeably.
he lined his cock up to your soaking entrance as you looked nervous. he went inside of you with a groan, "so fucking tight."
he went slow at first but progressed to a faster speed as your eyes rolled into the back of your head.
"fuck me harder james." you demanded as he did as you asked.
"pussy of my dreams, you don't even fucking know." he whispered in your ear which made you wetter.
he kept mumbling how it was worth it and he was right about fucking you.
you even had to admit that fucking him was amazing.
he started rubbing your clit as he fucked you harder which only made you a mess and you were completely fucked out.
"i'm coming!" you announced as he looked at you with a smile at how beautiful you were.
"please do." he said it, almost whimpering.
you both came at the same time as he laid next to you. you went to sleep rather quickly but he stayed with you, not wanting to leave you.
about three hours later, the rest of the marauders came in to see james in bed with you which made them go in shock as he told them to be quiet.
"no fucking way." sirius whispered.
you nuzzled your head more into james chest as he gave sirius a smirk and pet your hair.
and you could honestly say,
that you should've been the one begging to fuck him.
there was nothing wrong with you and james's friendship despite many people's opinions. you guys were just friends who were super comfortable with each other.
and yeah james would grab your tits or ass as a joke or you would joke about sucking his dick but it wouldn't mean a single thing.
but then there was a whole situation that came with a realization and it all started with the confession in the library,
"i like james." the entire table looked at your best friend, claire in shock.
you looked at her as if she had just made the most jaw dropping comment in the entire world.
you almost dropped your textbook, "like james cleate, james davies, like-" you started listing names.
"no james potter." she confirmed.
lily looked at you then back at claire, "claire, i mean are you sure? i understand that james can be charming but-" lily said, looking at her.
"no, i've been meaning to tell you guys, i wanted to hold off because of you know you y/n." claire said, looking at you as the rest of the group did.
"why would you hold off because of me?" you laughed.
everyone except for you knew why.
they knew because of you and james's touchy and very intimate friendship. most people couldn't tell if you wanted to fuck each other or date each other or maybe even both.
nobody responded, "come on guys, tell me." you looked over to mary, dorcas, and lily but they just looked down, not wanting to tell you.
marlene took it in her own hands, "because you guys seem like you want to fuck eachother."
you laughed as if it was a joke, "why would i ever want to fuck james? i mean come on, he's one of my bestest friends."
"but he is always kissing your neck and you are always sitting on his lap." dorcas interjected.
"it may seem weird but we have always been like that." you explained, not understanding how it was weird.
"well either way, i was just hoping you would kind of back off." claire confessed.
"what do you mean back off?" you asked, getting a little angry.
"i'm not asking you to stop being his friend or anything but kind of be less physical." she shyly said.
you could tell that she was scared to tell you this which was valid. you were extremely defensive about james and yours friendship and you could be arrogant about the topic.
you sighed, "okay."
the table looked at you in shock, "okay?" claire said, not expecting that answer.
"i mean you are my best friend and if you truly like him, i won't be "touchy" with him." you mocked.
claire excitingly got up, giving you a hug, "i will love you forever y/n l/n!"
you hugged her back, giving a slight smile, "yeah yeah."
she sat back down in her chair as you packed up your stuff, "you ready for potions lils?" you said.
all of your friends were in potions but you and lily usually attended early to be in slughorns favor for his famous club.
"yeah." lily said, getting up as you both waved your goodbyes to the group.
you guys started walking as you started thinking, were you and james that inappropriate?
"lils." you said as she hummed, "do you think james and i's relationship is actually not normal?" it sounded like a whisper.
she frowned, "i don't think you guys mean to be like that, i just think it's how you guys show love towards each other. it can be a little excessive but i know you guys mean no harm." she bumped you a little causing you to smile.
"i will follow through for claire, i would never want to hurt her." you said.
"and that's why you're amazing." lily complimented, holding your hand.
you both approached potions as you sat down in your usual seat next to james.
"isn't it my favorite slut of the year?" james joked, kissing your neck already and gripping your thigh.
you coughed, moving from his hold, looking away from him.
he looked at you confused, "uh y/n?" he said, waving his hand in front of your face.
you looked about him, not wanting to hurt his feelings, "you just haven't brushed your teeth and i don't want the many men i have on my dick to be strayed away from your slobber on my neck." you gave him a sarcastic smile.
he laughed, "yeah well, don't worry, i'm sure they will realize your many std's first." he bantered.
you pushed him as slughorn started class, talking about a new project involving an essay on pepperup potions.
you leaned over to james, “you know you are doing this entirely by yourself.” you grinned brightly.
he scoffed, “if you suck my cock, ill consider.” he said, slapping your thigh.
you could see how that was a bit out of friendship but you knew he was joking, that’s just who he was.
you rolled your eyes as slughorn have the class time to write the essay but you knew that you and james would definitely end up doing it last minute.
“okay i was thinking, the next prank we need to do is making all the seventh year slytherins only taste piss for the entire day.” he suggested.
you gave him a side eye, “james, that is disgusting.” you grimaced in disgust.
“which is why it’s so brilliant.” he boasted.
“brilliantly idiotic.” you mocked.
“you are just mad you will never be as clever, charming, and-“ james said as he was cut off.
“hey y/n!” you looked next to you to see claire standing.
you gave her a confused look, “hey claire.”
“i was wondering if i could sit with james for the rest of the class, we have a project in astrology.” she smiled, looking you in the eyes to note what she was doing.
“oh yeah sure.” you nodded as you took your stuff and got out of your seat.
james grabbed onto your wrist, “uh make sure to wait for me after class.”
“of course.” you smiled slightly, going over to sit next to marlene.
you looked at them to see claire talking to james as they both were giggling over something funny she had said.
“you’re staring.” marlene smirked.
“you’re staring.” you mocked in a stupid voice.
“mocking me does not stop the truth.” she sang.
“there is no truth to that.” you replied, “now can you explain what the potion does?” you asked, grabbing her notebook.
“not like i was reading that.” she rolled her eyes.
you spent the rest of your time annoying marlene before class ended.
you waited outside for james as he finally came out, talking to claire and the marauders.
“y/n!” claire squealed, “we had the most amazing conversation.” she whispered, “i like him even more now.” she excitingly said.
“good, im happy for you.” you tried your best to sound excited but you couldn’t ignore the tang in your stomach.
“oh and there is a party tonight so be ready after dinner.” she said as she left.
you felt a slap on your ass as james appeared behind you, “oh how much i missed you darling.” he kissed your cheek.
you didn’t know how to stop something you had done for multiple years.
“aww you are really that happy to see me?” you joked.
“no, i just missed your tits.” he groped your boobs as you pushed him off quickly, grabbing his head and rubbing his hair with your fist.
“you guys creep me out each day.” sirius said as you both continued play fighting.
you both ignored him, calming down, “so how do you feel about claire?” you asked as you both walked behind sirius and remus.
“she’s a cool partner.” he said blankly.
“okay but what else?” you attempted further.
“i mean she’s funny but not as funny as you sweet cheeks.” he gripped onto your cheek as you pushed him.
“i just realized that i would rather die than have to spend the day with the both of you together.” sirius added.
you ran up to sirius, climbing on his back, “sirius, you totally wanna fuck me.” you yelled, kissing him all over his face as held up your legs.
“wait you’re finally letting me?” he grinned.
“hell no.” you laughed as sirius let go of you and james caught you.
“james, you actually saved me.” you dramatically said.
“does that mean i can fuck you?” he asked.
you rolled your eyes, “you guys are idiots.” remus said.
“you offend my poor heart moony.” sirius said, hanging his arm over remus’s shoulder as they had their own conversation.
“are you going to the party tonight?” james hung his arm around you.
“yeah, i mean everyone else is.” you said, “what about you?”
“i am a party animal y/n, of course.” he happily replied.
you cringed, “anyways, i have to go get ready.” you said, leaving james’s arm.
“the party is in four hours?” sirius replied.
“i know, i am so gonna be late to that party!” you said, running off to your dorm.
you headed back to your dorm, talking with the group and planning our outfits.
as you did this, you couldn’t help but think about what you would do if claire and james dated.
i mean you had never thought about james romantically, maybe sexually but never romantically. but you felt a sting in your heart when you heard claire liked him.
but you knew it would be selfish and wrong to keep doing what you were doing with him while claire liked him.
so you made the promise to her and yourself to back off.
after dinner, almost everyone has went to the gryffindor common room, a silencing spell being the only thing guarding the party as well as the password.
the marauders always through these kinds of parties and made sure that nobody would ever get caught. you had always wondered how they had done it in the first place.
as you entered the room, you spotted james almost immediately. he was screaming on top of a table, being so excited as always.
if he were actually a party animal, he would be a lion, you could always hear his roar.
you could tell he spotted you immediately when you guys made eye contact.
he jumped off the table, inching towards you. you excused yourself from the girls for a second but you could see through your peripheral that claire was following behind you, seeing james too.
“my queen! you have finally returned to the castle.” he yelled, picking you up which made your dress lift a little over your ass as you yelped.
“the party just started and you are already bloody hammered.” you yelled over all the noise.
“that’s how i roll darling.” he winked at you.
you felt claire staring daggers into you as you had to act fast, “james guess what i heard?” you said.
“what have you heard madam?” he asked.
“that someone has more killer dance moves than you.” you said.
“oh yeah?” he scoffed.
“yep and she’s right here.” you said, grabbing claire closer to you.
“never took you as the dancer, brown.” he said, looking at claire.
claire blushed, “i do have a few moves.” she replied sweetly.
“then may i have this dance?” he asked, extending his hand in a prince position.
“of course!” claire beamed, taking his hand as she looked back at you in pure gratefulness.
you sighed, moving towards remus and sirius who were sitting at the couch talking.
you sit down right in between them as they moved over, “how about an excuse me next time?” sirius said, pushing you a little.
“hadn’t even noticed you.” you fakely smiled.
“care to tell me why james is dancing with claire brown?” sirius asked.
“because i set it up, they would be cute.” you replied instantly.
“are you sure you actually feel that way?” remus asked, smirking.
smartass.
you could feel the blush in your cheeks and the butterflies in your stomach, “why would i not?” you asked.
“i think we both know.” sirius added.
“i feel like i am getting tag teamed right now.” you sighed.
“i mean that can happen.” sirius said as both you and remus rolled your eyes and you shoved your hand in his face.
you went to go get a drink when you saw james laughing, dancing with claire. you couldn’t help but wish it was with you.
this party was clearly getting overwhelming so what other did you have other to get hammered?
you began drinking about everything in sight until you were completely buzzed.
you started dancing with a random guy from ravenclaw on the dance floor, feeling every bad thought slip away.
you danced for what felt like hours until all the dancing became dizzy and you began feeling like you needed to puke.
you ended up running outside to the hallways, puking completely in the first corner you see.
you heard people behind you as you looked to see who it was.
it was claire and james.
they were making out.
they could even be bothered to notice you even a little bit.
you felt completely sick to your stomach, not grasping the situation fully. you quickly ran the other way before they could notice you.
imagining it felt dizzy but seeing it felt sickening.

FIRST CHAPTER: VIOLET
Being friends with benefits with James Potter wasn't the easiest nor the most boring. You didn't even fully understand how you got into this predicament.
All you remember is James's obvious charm and his humor which had always enchanted you and he was always quick with his tongue.
The only problem was you were falling in love with him.
You had warned him this would happen but he had always thought you were talking about him which he assured you, he wouldn't.
You both were an outlet for all of your bullshit and problems, what made it worse was that you were friends with all of the Marauders, hanging out with them every day.
All of these thoughts passed as you were laying in his bed at this very second. You were stopped when you heard him groan, "Mmm, good morning." He smirked, kissing your neck delicately.
You gave him a polite smile, sitting up while you fiddled with your fingers, "James, I think we need to ta-" You attempted.
"Too early for talking," He moaned into his pillow, "Did you wanna get breakfast?" He asked, rising up.
You rolled your eyes, "Sure."
He gasped, "Did you just roll your eyes at me?" He looked at you with daring eyes.
"Don't." You giggled as he lunged forward, tickling you as you pleaded, trying to grasp air.
"Come on, say it!" He yelled, tickling you.
"Uncle! Uncle!" You screamed as he stood on his knees, flexing.
You kicked his stomach slightly as he toppled over you, "Dirty play." He groaned.
"Curse Remus for teaching you that saying." You whined.
"You are only mad because I can take you down." He boasted as you scoffed, remembering his body on top of you.
You tried pushing his body off of you, "Jesus lay off the bread Potter."
He pinned your arms to the sheets, looking at you as you grew flustered, "You know you like me a little chubby." He winked, kissing your lips harshly.
You could feel his entire being, the smell of home and butterbeer. He felt like warmth on a rainy day or running through a field of flowers.
He lifted his head, breaking the kiss, "Guess what?" He asked.
You smiled, "What?"
"Lily actually talked to me yesterday," Your smile fell, "I mean she actually talked to me! Not even an insult but she asked how Quidditch was going, and she initiated it!" He excitingly said, still on top of you.
"Good for you James." You tried your best to sound happy.
He grinned brighter, "And we might even go on a date, I mean Dorcas said Lily was actually considering it." A pang in your heart, "Isn't that amazing?" He laughed in pure happiness.
"Yes, it is James, congratulations." You simply said.
He said nothing more but instead kissed you in response.
He pulled back, "I'm just gonna go take a quick shower then we can meet the boys downstairs." He stood, "You know I do miss them but I do not miss sharing a room with them and I'm sure you don't either." He winked, grabbed his towel, and left for the washroom.
James being a prefect had its perks like a new room and being able to not wake up to a bunch of ruckuses by the rest of the Marauders.
But it didn't help with your heart, hanging out with him more often and having sex more often.
You knew James wasn't using you, you knew that he thought you wanted it too which you did but, you wanted all of James.
You wanted the label, you pleaded for it.
But you knew it would only complicate things and James was a boy, he wouldn't know what to do if you told him how you truly felt about him.
You just wished you had never agreed to this in the first place. Remus had advised you not to and you knew he was right but the way James treated you, it felt nice.
He never neglected to tell you how beautiful you were or how grateful he was to have you, even telling you that he 'loved' you.
You knew he loved you but not in the way that you loved him.
He always showered you with kisses and affection. On Valentines Day, he even got you an entire bouquet of chocolate roses. And on Christmas, he got you a perfume that smelled of everything you loved.
Lavender, peaches, violet, him.
You wished life could be easier.
You knew that in another universe, you and James probably had three kids, all of them running around like crazy while James chased them around and you baked chocolate muffins and smiled brightly about your life.
You could only wish it would happen in this one.
You chose to stop pondering on things that aren't real and get ready for classes.
During the walk to the dining hall, James could not stop talking about Lily and how he was excited that she was finally noticed him in a good way.
"Are we still on for tonight?" He asked, "I was thinking we could sneak into the kitchens, just us."
"Yeah sure." You said.
"It's a date." He joked, wrapping his arm around you. You did an awkward laugh before sitting down in the middle of James and Remus with Peter and Sirius across from you all.
"About time," Sirius exasperated, "I know you guys like fucking but it's taking a toll on me."
You rolled your eyes, throwing a piece of bread at him, "Don't be mad because you don't get laid." You said, grabbing an apple.
"Y/n, I think you forgot who you are talking to." He scoffed.
You shook your head, putting some eggs on your plate as James started telling Sirius and Peter about Lily. Remus looked at you in tiredness.
"There is no way you haven't told him how you felt yet." He whispered.
You shushed him despite the fact of James being next to you, "There is nothing to tell." You whispered.
"Mhm." He hummed.
A bell signaled everyone to get to their classes as you started going, "Y/n, let me walk you!" James yelled.
"James, we have the same class as the rest of the boys." You giggled.
"I was trying to be romantic." He pouted as you hit him softly with your shoulder.
Romantic? That made absolutely no sense but that was his beautiful humor.
You felt a hand on your waist as you looked at James, his expression didn't falter, still laughing at a joke he had made.
You liked that he could comforately do that without caring if people thought you guys were a couple or not but you knew it meant nothing to him, just a friendly thing.
"So Y/n," Sirius wrapped his arm around you as James moved his own hand off, looking a bit pissed off, "Are you going to sit with me today?" He asked, giving you a not-so subtle wink.
You played along, "What do I get out of it Black?" You smirked, looking up at him.
"Well.." He paused, "I can make you come in five minutes with this finger," He held up his ring finger, "Under the desk." He winked.
Remus and James grimaced as you laughed, "In your dreams Black." You left his arms, hitting him lightly in the stomach.
He pouted, "How come she will fuck James and not me? I am way better in bed."
"No, you aren't mate." James scoffed, "She's in love with my tongue." He said, sticking his tongue out at Sirius.
Sirius gave him a mocking face as you all entered the classroom. You noticed that Lily was sitting at an empty desk, looking at James already.
You sat down at an empty desk, hoping that James would sit with you. You looked at him as well, he was looking at you then back at Lily.
He walked forward to you as a wave of relief passed over you, "I'll see you tonight, okay?" He said to you as disbelief took your expression entirely.
He didn't wait for an answer, sitting down next to Lily.
You couldn't believe that he had done that to you, you never thought James would be so cruel.
You sat there in silence, just staring straight across from you.
Peter sat down next to you, taking your hand in his as a way of understanding.
You squeezed his hand, thanking him as you looked over to see James and Lily laughing about something.
Your heart was breaking at the sight of it all.
The class seemed as if it took an eternity to end. Usually, you had James there to make jokes and make the class worth the misery of Slughorn's long lectures but instead, he was making jokes and making the class worth the misery for Lily.
You saw Lily and James exchanging their last words, smiling at each other as Lily left, blushing ferociously.
James came beaming, rushing to tell you all about his encounter with Lily and how well it had gone.
It was actually giving you a headache.
You cut him off finally, "I'm gonna go lay down actually."
"Are you all right?" James asked.
"Yeah, just tired." You replied convincingly.
"Oh okay, I'm gonna go hang out with Lily at Hogsmeade for a bit after lunch but I'll be back before tonight." He mentioned before talking to the rest of the Marauders, not waiting for your response.
You turned away and made it toward your dorm.
You couldn't help but be pissed at James for even treating you like this. Usually, it was annoying but it wasn't intolerable or something that made you sick.
It was as if James couldn't care for your well-being today.
You weren't used to this James, the James that fully neglected you for Lily Evans.
He might've been not that attentive but only before Quidditch matches, never because of Lily.
You knew he cared about your feelings but today, it felt like you completely dismissed them.
You did actually have a headache though.
Taking a nap would most likely fix it faster than a bunch of classes and boring lectures.
----
You awoke after hours, the buzzing in your head finally being non-existent.
All of your dorm mates were in bed so dinner had already passed, it was time for you to meet up with James.
You had put on your prettiest set of pink pajamas, spraying the best perfume you had that smelled of violet and citrus.
Sneaking in the kitchens would be your only problem sadly due to the excessive guarding of the corridors.
Usually, you would use the invisibility cloak but James had it and there was no possible way of going to his dorm and getting it from him.
You risked being caught, sneaking to the kitchens, using your wand as a small flashlight.
Thankfully, you didn't get caught and you made it to the kitchens. No elves were in sight as you grabbed tubs of ice cream, and whipped cream with chocolate syrup and cherries.
You sat down on a stool, not wanting to start eating without James.
You had waited an hour and thirty minutes so far, but no sight of James yet. You were worried that he was so tired that he forgot.
The ice cream started melting and you had to use a freezing spell to stop it.
You started nodding off, about to sleep before you heard two voices laughing.
You looked over to see James and Lily laughing, his jacket around her shoulders as you were internally fuming.
They both stopped laughing at the sight of you.
"Oh Y/n," He looked at you in shock, "I totally forgot about tonight." He looked entirely guilty.
You didn't respond, but instead, you got off of the stool and grabbed your wand.
You went towards the doorway where they were, "Excuse me." You excused yourself as Lily moved and James didn't.
"Y/n." He said, looking at your eyes that were glossy.
"I said excuse me, James." Your voice broke.
He moved beside you as you stormed off toward your dorm.
You heard footsteps charging after you as you looked behind you, "Stop." You sobbed as James stopped in his tracks, "I'm not going to talk about this, go back to your date." You demanded.
"You are important to me." He said.
"More important than her?" You asked, tears falling down your cheeks.
He didn't know what to say, "Yeah, that's what I thought."
You turned away, "I always put you first." You said before looking back again.
"I understand if we can't be more than whatever the fuck we are but at least have enough respect for me to not make me wait for you." You argued.
"I never meant to hurt you," James said, guilty.
"But you continue to do it and it's shameless," You sobbed, "You know no matter what, I will always be there for you, I will always be at your beck and call and you know it's because I love you." You said.
He stood speechless, "But you used me as a placeholder for her until she gave in." You cried.
"I never used you, I thought it was mutual-" He tried explaining.
"I tried to tell you this morning how I felt and you ignored me, you didn't even let me try to tell you." You stated, "But you never care to listen to me, you only use me for sex." You spat.
"Y/n, I-" He started but you both heard footsteps.
"You are out of time, James." You said, turning your heel and running off to your dorm.
summary: all you ever wanted was to be noticed by james potter.
word count: 1k
warning: none, all fluff and angst
Notice me.
Two words you wished James Potter would do. Two words that you said every day as if they were a wish that took an eternity to become true.
Being Remus's little sister wasn't bad, it's not like you were in his shadow or didn't have any sort of social status. It was just that you didn't have a chance of being with James.
Every single time that you tried interacting with him, he would take it as an opportunity to call you 'champ' or even nuzzle your hair with his first.
It was tragic.
What made it worse was that every single girl was all over him and you had to see. I mean it didn't always sting when you knew that were just random girls but when it came to Lily Evans, that broke your heart.
But this year was going to be different in multiple ways. Remus had let it slip that James didn't like Lily anymore and it was a new year, you were only a year below them and you deserved this.
You could convince him that Remus wouldn't care and it would be fine to be together.
After letting your friends encourage you and make your confidence rise to a hundred, you chose to just do it.
Just ask him out.
If he said no, it would be fine and you could somehow recover maybe.
There were multiple thoughts going through your head as you approached the Marauders during break.
That's when your heart starting beating and you couldn't even move due to overthinking.
Remus looked at you, the rest of them being used to your presence, "Hello Y/n?" Remus said, waving his hand in front of your face as you snapped out of it.
"Yeah sorry." You muttered.
"Did you need something or did Mother send a letter?" He asked you as you shook your head no, "What is it then?" He asked, confusingly.
"I need to speak with James." You said, loud enough for all the Marauders to hear. They all looked at you with a sense of confusion because they had never see you and James even interact.
"About what?" Remus practically whispered.
"Yeah about what Y/n?" Sirius asked, smirking.
Although you weren't that close with Sirius, he would taunt you about it, you knew that he knew but you never dared to say a word.
"Is this like an inside joke?" Peter asked, genuinely confused.
"None of your business." You looked at both Sirius and Remus sternly.
Remus gave you a 'what' look as James moved towards you with his hands in his pockets, "Okay, anything for Remus's little sister." He gave you a wink as Remus rolled his eyes and Sirius watched amusingly.
You heart was practically jumping out of your chest at this point as James waited for you to speak, "I meant in private."
He raised an eyebrow, "Uh okay sure." He said, scratching the back of his head as Sirius snickered and Remus was asking him what was so funny.
James followed you to an abandoned corridor as you halted nervously and he stopped right behind you. You turned around to see him confused.
"Okay, I'm gonna tell you something and you promise not to say anything until I'm finished?" You said, speeding through your words.
"I mean of course, is there something wr-" He asked before being cut off.
"I like you." You admitted as he looked like he had swallowed a Puking Pastie, "I mean I have liked you for a long, long time and I never wanted to tell you because Remus is your best friend and I am his little sister. I wanted to tell you but you liked Lily and I know you might consider me a child but I really, really do adore you and just want you to see me more as Remus's little sister." You nervously explained, "I know that this may come off as surprising but I just want you to get to know me and give me the chance to be more."
He frowned.
'No, no, don't break my heart.' You thought, your eyes pleading with him.
"I think you are absolutely amazing Y/n but-" He started.
"Please don't, please don't tell me I'm amazing and then reject me as if I haven't loved you all this time. I just want a chance to prove it to you and this may seem like begging but I am and I am begging you to give me a chance." You pleaded.
"I wish I could tell you that I love you but I don't feel that way about you and I don't want to upset you at all, you are lovely but you are not what I want." He explained.
"What's wrong with me?" You said as your eyes watered.
"There is absolutely nothing wrong with you Y/n, I just can't see you in the way that you want me to." He said sadly, "There will be a man for you and unfortunately, I am not him and you can do better than me."
"There is no better than you." You admitted.
He held onto your hand, “There is better than me,” He tried convincing, “I don’t want to hurt you in any way and I don’t want to lead you on, you don’t deserve that.”
A tear rolled down your cheek, it may have seemed stupid but you did love James. All you ever wanted to do was step out from the curtains and be with him.
"Do you remember when you were sick with that god-awful flu, and you had no sense of time and just laid in your bed the entire time?" You sniffled, laughing a little, "And then Remus gave you that amazing soup, and the next day, you were magically better. I gave him that, and I skipped all my studying for OWLS to craft the potion just so that you didn't have to deal with it anymore."
"Or when you broke your leg because of Quidditch and you were in there for a week, I stayed with you while you slept until you woke up and did all your homework and made Sirius say it was him even though you didn't believe him." You laughed at the last part through your sobs.
He looked at you with sympathetic eyes as you took your hand back, "Well it's fine 'cause that doesn't matter now, all of that is meaningless now."
"It's not meaning-" James tried.
The bell rang as you wiped your tears, "Well I guess I'll see you later then, don't wanna be late to Astronomy." You said, moving past him.
two weeks since james kissing you, two weeks since your entire friend group resented you, and two weeks since you made one of the hugest mistakes you could've made.
time felt so slow and agonizing.
you could deal with claire not liking you but your entire friend group? that was hell.
you knew that what you had did was awful but not being able to explain yourself or to help people realize how guilty you felt was the hardest and most frustrating part of it all.
james was trying to talk to you, you were trying to talk to anyone in your friend group, and they were ignoring you to comfort claire.
you did try talking to claire as well but she would either get really pissed or walk away from you.
this situation was more dramatic than you could've imagined.
now you were currently trying to talk to lily,
"lily please, let me at least explain myself." you begged, trying to talk to her during potions.
she scoffed, "what is there to explain?" she continued to examine her potion, "you betrayed our closest friend and couldn't be honest with her, that's fucked up."
you frowned, "i never meant to hurt her, i didn't even know it would be a dare, i love claire and i never wanted to make her upset." you explained.
she looked at you, "did you love her while you were kissing james?" she sarcastically asked.
"this is fucking ridiculous." you laughed crazily, "you know i would've never done anything to intentionally hurt claire and yes, i made a mistake but-"
lily cut you off, "there is no but, you made a mistake and as much as i want to sympathize with you in the best way i can, you know claire is in the right and didn't deserve that so stop trying to act innocent." she spat.
you had never seen lily so furious, well at you.
proving to claire that you wouldn't do that her again seemed damn near impossible and the resentment and hate towards you was something you couldn't fight.
you wished you could disappear.
but unfortunately, that was not going to be an option.
the class dismissed as you rushed out the door, not wanting to even wait for the dirty looks or snark remarks from claire.
having most of your classes with your friends was actually not the best thing considering the situation.
you spent most of your time on the bench outside during the ten minute break, thinking. thinking about what you could do or what to even say to claire. even if she did slap you and not be the kindest, she still was your best friend at the end of the day.
you were a little pissed at claire for how she was handling the situation but you couldn't blame how she was acting, she was clearly hurt by your actions.
the bell chimed, noting you to start walking to class, holding your books in your hands.
you were lost in thought when someone bumped into your shoulder aggressively, making you drop the books in your hand.
you looked behind you to see who did it and to no surprise it was claire.
"claire, what the fuck?" you angrily said.
she turned around with a smirk, "oh i'm sorry, did you drop your books?" she sarcastically said, pouting.
"this mean girl look is not cute and you know it, you are just being a bitch." you spat.
she inched closer to you, "maybe i wouldn't have to be a bitch if it wasn't for the fact that you couldn't keep your legs closed for the a hundreth time this year." she berated, earning a couple of 'oooh's' from different students.
you scoffed, "do yourself a bloody favor and just walk away, you are only doing this because you are angry which i will excuse this one time." you snapped.
more students from different houses started to gather around.
"oh thank you for permission y/n!" she sarcastically cheered, "that is so mature of you considering all you do is act like a slut for any boy who gives you an inch of attention," she was now face to face with you, "and just for clarification, james didn't kiss you because you had any personality, he only kissed you because you were easy and was hoping to score some." she scowled.
"fuck you." you spat.
"i'm sure you would love to do that considering you have fucked at least everyone in the school." she smirked.
that comment really got you, causing you to punch claire square in her face which made her fall on the floor.
you angrily looked down on her as she had a surprised look on her face from you hitting her.
you realized quickly what you had just done, "claire, i'm so sorry." you extended your hand to help her which she accepted, "my anger got the best of m-" you started.
you were cut off but the impact of her punching you as you feel to the ground and she rose on top of your waist, "you fucking cunt!" she yelled.
she started clawing your face which caused you to scream to which you punched her in the stomach, trying to get her off of you.
you punched her square in the nose, maybe even breaking it.
she yelped in agony, hitting you harder as you pushed her to which she fell opposite of you and you got on top of her. you began hitting her hardly as she reached and pulled at your hair roughly.
you yelled, punching her harder to which she covered her face as you felt someone grab you.
"you fucking whore!" claire yelled from the ground as you looked to see remus trying to pick her up.
you tried to break out of the persons hold but they weren't budging, "fuck you claire." you spat, blood coming out of your mouth.
"calm down." james whispered in your ear, your body relaxing.
as you became unfocused, claire broke out of remus's hold and began lunging towards you.
she punched you in the jaw so hard that you heard a crack. you yelled louder in pain as multiple students began grabbing claire to hold her back.
you grabbed onto your jaw in pain as james began blocking you with his body.
you felt unable to focus, the pain was indescribable. you felt as if your entire jaw was misplaced, you couldn’t believe claire actually had it in her.
james urgently rushed you to the infirmary where pomfrey took a look at you, “merlin!” she said, “excuse my language but your jaw is entirely misplaced.” she touched your jaw as you groaned in pain.
james was holding your hand as you squeezed his hand when you felt pain.
pomfrey went away for a second, grabbing her wand, “this will only hurt for a second.” she said.
before you realized what she was doing, a simple charm placed your jaw back into place which hurt like a bitch.
you yelled loudly, squeezing james’s hand as tightly as you could.
you calmed down after a minute, not feeling as much pain due to a numbing charm.
pomfrey healed most of your bruises and cuts although the claw marks were going to take time to heal.
after a few healing potions and some fixing of your jaw, you had to talk to headmaster dumbledore.
“can you convince him i’m still sick?” you pleaded with promfrey.
she shook her head in dismissal as you sighed. you looked at james next to you who gave you a comforting smile.
“don’t worry, you know dumbledore won’t be so harsh.” he comforted.
you smiled, calming down, “thanks james.” you said, “and thank you for staying with me the entire time.”
he shrugged, “it’s whatever i guess.” he joked as you pushed him a little bit.
“if i’m not expelled, I’ll see you after?” you said, sounding a bit more like a question.
“of course, would die without ya.” he said, embracing you in a hug then holding your cheeks with both of his hands on either side, “i’m sorry you broke your jaw because of something i did.” he sounded genuine which made your heart flutter and due to his hands heating up your cheeks.
you laughed, “it’s okay, i think the kiss was worth it.” you winked, leaving him grinning from ear to ear.
“between you and me,” he whispered, “me too.”
you smiled, “i should get going.”
“yeah, ill see you soon eh?” he said.
“yep.” you replied before heading off.
you went up to dumbledore's office with nerves radiating your entire body. you couldn't believe this is where you were and you couldn't believe that you and claire actually fought.
none of it seemed real.
you took a deep breath as you entered his office, claire sitting on the left side with a scowl on her face.
"come in miss l/n." dumbledore greeted you with a friendly face.
you stepped inside, sitting down on the right side, about five inches away from claire.
"i have heard from many other students and they have claimed to have witnessed that you started the fight." he said, looking at you, "is that true?"
you swallowed, "it is, i was hurt by something claire had said which is no excuse and i got violent." you admitted, looking into your lap, "i apologize."
he nodded, "is there anything you would like to say miss brown?" he asked.
"i apologize too, i reacted out of anger and should've never called y/n such horrible names." she said, "she's my best friend and didn't deserve that."
this caused you to look at her, you were still her best friend.
"hogwarts forbids any sort of violence and you are both mature enough to talk about your issues instead of resorting to that. usually, this would result in expulsion," he said, causing you to widen your eyes, "but i was a teenager once and know that mistakes are not in the list of characteristics nor do they define you and due to that understanding, your punishment will be detention for two months."
a wave of relief hit you so harshly, you wondered if dumbledore could've seen it.
"i appreciate that, nothing like that will ever happen again." you stated.
"agreed." claire nodded.
"i hope so." he said, "and i hope you both realize that friendship is more important than a teenage boy." you both looked at each other in surprise, "with that being said, you may go off to dinner." he dismissed.
you both thanked him, walking out of the room.
you chose to speak first once you both were otuside, "i'm really sorry claire, i should've never done that to you and i was being selfish, i love you so much and you matter more than any boy ever could." you heartfully spoke.
claire was glossy-eyed, "same with me, i'm sorry for ignoring you and well being a bitch," you both laughed, "and for hitting you, i never should've gotten physical."
you smiled, "i completely agree, i should've never hit you, i just want to be best friends again." you said.
"and that we are." she held your hand, "honestly, i think you know how to throw a punch." she joked.
"me? did you see the punch you gave me, knocked my bloody jaw out of place." you both started laughing loudly.
"i didn't think it was hard!" she giggled.
"i swear my jaw will never be the same." you frowned jokingly.
she kissed your cheek, "there, it's fixed, trust me."
"actually, it is feeling a little better now." you agreed.
"and about james, if you want him, you can-"
she cut you off, "trust me, i do not want james anymore, i have realized i like the idea of him and not truly him. plus, pettigrew is actually very kind and hilarious." she said.
relief washed over you, "i always thought you two would be cute." you admitted.
"really? good to know." she winked, "and we both know you and james are meant to be." she added.
you scoffed, "yeah right."
"you should admit it before it's too late." she sent you a smug look, "the way he looks at you is as if you he could look at you for an eternity." she said, looking ahead.
a grin plastered on your face, "really?" you asked.
"yep." she simply said.
it was silent after that, you were too lost in your thoughts. in that moment, you knew that you wanted to be with james potter.
not because it made sense but because he was always there, he always cared.
james felt like an adrenaline rush that never faded or when you are floating on water with your eyes closed.
he made you feel golden.
and i guess you could say that james potter himself was golden.
you both made it to the dining hall, sitting down with the group as they looked at you both totally confused.
"are you guys going to kill eachother again?" dorcas asked.
"yeah because i can totally record." marlene added.
you and claire both started laughing, "i'm afraid there will be no more killing eachother." claire said.
you agreed, "yeah, i think we will stick to being best friends."
"thank the lord, i was really starting to miss you." mary said, looking at you.
"agreed." dorcas said.
"missed you a lot." lily said.
"missed you too lils." you smiled.
"i'm sorry for what i said." lily said.
you squeezed her hand, "i understand why you said it and i love you for sticking with claire." you said, kissing her on the cheek, "i'll be back guys, i have to go do something." you excused yourself as they all nodded, continuing their conversations.
you went up to james and tapped his shoulder, "may i talk to you?" you asked as he looked behind to see you.
"y-yeah of course." he said, getting up.
you both went outside of the hall, "claire and i cleared everything up."
he nodded, hands inside his pockets, "good good, i'm glad."
"yeah and i obviously didn't even get expelled." you laughed.
he chuckled, "amazing news." he said, looking at the ground.
"and i also realized that i kinda like you." you said as he looked at you in shock, "just a little bit." you joked.
"i think i kinda like you too." he cheesily said.
"so potter, will you give the most extraordinary time of my life by letting me take you on a date?" you asked.
he hummed, tapping his chin with his pointer finger, "i meann,"
he suddenly picked you up as you yelped and carried you in the air, "of course i will!" he yelled.
"okay okay! bloody put me down!" you giggled.
"wait does that mean i can finally fuck you?" he asked, jokingly.
"maybe after thirty dates." you said.
he pouted, "thirty?"
you rolled your eyes, "i'm kidding with you, if you take me to a nice place, you can fuck me." you said.
he cheered loudly as you shushed him, "can i kiss you?" he asked.
you mimicked his pretend thinking earlier, "no shit sherlock."
he smiled, placing his hand on you cheeks and kissing you.
and now, you guys weren't totally just friends.
