Castiel Novak in high school always favored his black trench coat over the tan one. Favored books over those damn smart phones. Favored cigarette smoke over clean air. Leaned against the back of the library with a leg propped on the wall behind him, cigarette in his mouth, a leather bound copy of Dracula in his rough hands.
Dean Winchester preferred his letterman over the leather his dad handed down. Favored the boys locker room over any phone app, favored the high of running. Especially running past a castiel leaned so cool against such a crumbled building.
Castiel never got past the first page; eternally focused on the pitiful boy practically begging to be noticed by the one person that never seemed to notice but always did.
