i mentioned feedism to my therapist and she was SO casual about it! She told me she’d heard of it before and it’s more common than you’d think.
really gentle and kind about it :)
Ahhh, yay! Honestly, I think most therapists are gonna be totally chill, whether they have heard of it or not. They are there to help you process the way your sexuality is impacting your life, not to gett involved. They aren't gonna, like, tell you how to manage pre-diabetes or how to gain 15lbs in ten days. The actual kink details don't matter to them.
Where more "vanilla" therapists have failed me is in big picture stuff:
- How do you find a partner when you have a one in a million sexuality? (Because "there are lots of fish in the sea" simply isn't true.)
- How do you navigate relationships with people who have deep and unaddressed trauma due to shame and their sexuality? (Because very, very few people here are "healthier/more ready for a healthy relationship".)
- Help me process and accept the compromises I have to make to exist in the relationships I choose to make (because there will be compromise; more than in a vanilla relationship.)
- How do you support a long-term partner who is harming themselves, or who you are knowingly harming, because it is a vital component of your sexuality? (Because "avoid hurting them" is impossible while embracing your sexuality and "self-harm is toxic" is not always true.)
