Right that’s it - gonna spam you with asks (jk)
I’ve been to that hotel a few times for SPN and LUX but never for DST. We found queuing at the bar in the front of the hotel was ridiculous and went back to the crowne plaza where we were staying - and some of the guests were there and we had drinks with them really quiet and friendly.
Do you think it’s any better or worse than previous DST? Would you go again? What kind of percentage of fans are wearing uniforms / cosplay?? What are the parties like in the evening? Tim Russ and his band used to play but not sure how it’s working now.
Thanks! LLAP
I think it's better than the last official DST, even though that one had guests I wanted to see more and it wasn't during the strike (so they could actually talk about Star Trek lol). The vibes in the hotel are just better, and for me being able to escape to my room for a wee while between events is So helpful.
I'd definitely go again, finances depending! You could probably stay somewhere cheaper nearby, but it is nice being so close to everything. I'm loading up on the complementary breakfast rn.
The vast majority of fans are in cosplay or wearing merch. Big mix of uniforms, full prosthetics, and subtle Trill makeup.
Parties are... Well I went to last night's one when it started and the primary school disco vibes were off the charts. Not helped by me having a headache from travel. I'll try again tonight but go later on. It was just very loud, weird DJ, strobing lights. Lots of chairs, at least
OML me and my sister wanted to go to DST (haven’t been since before covid) but I couldn’t get time off work. How is it?? Back when it was “official” it felt like you were wandering round an aircraft hangar but now they’re back in hotels right?? Is it the Metropole by the NEC? How’s the attendance? Sorry for the ask but didn’t want to pinpoint where you are geographically to the world.
It definitely suits being in the hotel (yes it's the Metropole, and it's packed enough for me to feel fine saying that) much better. The disorganised vibes are kinda charming when it's entirely fan run, though I do wish they were a bit better at signing for and labelling stuff (I spent most of yesterday trying to find where everything was). Yesterday they said the attendance would be over 3000 people!
Honestly it's just really chill, J G Hertzler was wandering the bar last night having pints with a lot of fans. He clearly wants to talk about the Klingons So Much and keeps being held back by strike rules. The attempts to avoid any phrases copyrighted by Paramount are so funny
Oh and it's a little cheaper than it used to be, since they don't have to factor in licensing fees. Still spent way too much money but most of that was travel (am not from here)
ANY ONE HERE GOING TO THE STAR TREK CON IN BLACKPOOL?????
Great day at DST! Thank u @frogayyyy and @gayfour for making it a fun one!!
Our foreign correspondent, Ella Pearson, was at Destination Trek last weekend and got a chance to rub elbows with some of the stars of Trek! Check out her photos from the press conference and the red carpet of the What We Left Behind premiere! (and see if you can spot her!)

Season 3, Episode 18.5 Supplemental: Trekonomics with Manu Saadia
We're gearing up for @StarTrek_DST and @trekonomics joins the show to talk money in #StarTrek! #DSTBirmingham
It’s a wealth of discussion this week as Manu Saadia, author of Trekonomics, joins the show to talk about what’s in Picard’s wallet! The “no money” economy of the Federation has always been one of its major selling points, but how would a system like that actually operate? Manu and I discuss the “economic plumbing” of the UFP, as well as what it might take for us to reach a similar economic…
