My main problem with the dawning engrams are there is only so many you can get. Its not a never ending progression like bright engrams. You get 3 when first participating (1 for each character), 3 more per week for speading the cheer milestone (1 for each character), and then 3 more (1 per character) everyday for the daily milestones until the dawning ends.
This doesnt even address the fact that the loot relies on rng. Also on a system tied to tess that scans your inventory (including vault) to not give you repeat gear. But this has a backward function in a sense for shaders since you delete the ones you don’t want. But since bungie suddenly decided we needed a box for vault (also barely any loot and multiple reskins + no reason for multiple items with the lack of random rolls…but thats another rant), that encourages players to delete unused gear instead of being a “collect them all” player, we end up with repeated unwanted gear and useless mods.
In a sense this is all rigged to encourage players to engage in microtransations. Just the way they were going to pressure players into buying the dlc by locking the dawning and other activities behind it. As much as i love mayhem it reminds me of a low blow bungie would have pulled if players hadnt been outraged at the locked content and demanded refunds.
In the beginning D2 captured my attention tenfold…but then after the glamour wore off i saw how hallow the game was for me. Some are enjoying it and Im glad they can still get their moneys worth. But many of the player base is pissed and tired of bungie’s miscommunication + greedy tactics. Theyve made so many weird and awful decisions for the game that are reveiled to be money hungry tactics under player testing and research.
So to end rant. The dawning is a “free” content release that tricks players into paying more money for useless loot. Also giving the starving pvp community a mode WE ALREADY HAD IN D1 that bungie decided to take away when “expanding” destiny… A mode, if brought forward because we had it in d1(…duh, bungie?), that would have originally kept pvp player entertained for a while and a chance to feel/enjoy the new supers they promoted. But noooo. We got 3 old modes, the inability to choose which one to play, and a lack luster/pointless competitive mode.
