it’s nothing that she hasn’t endured before, injuries like this tend to come with the title. and yeah, she’s in some pain and it’s enough to be a hindrance to her – but there’s this huge need to brush it off like it’s nothing in front of ichigo. it’s like she’s trying to impress him by acting like she walked out of that fight unscathed.

kinda stupid really, considering she almost falls back down after trying to stand up.

“ never been better. “ she steadies herself finally, wincing slightly as she stands up straight.

     He accepts Pantera’s word. He accepts it for the same reason he doesn’t acknowledge those wounds any further. For the same reason he didn’t step into her fight. She needs to win. Needs to know she’s strong. She’s like her wielder that way, he supposes. It’s akin to survival.

     He would help. But he can’t. Because she’d never let him.

     And he thinks she wants it. But she can’t accept it.

     If she passes out, then he’ll carry her.

     “Yeah.” That’s the best agreement he has as he starts back, walking instead of using shunpo. “It was a good fight.” He glances over. “Was it fun?”

     It’s probably his own fault for not seeing it coming. He knows she’s like this.

     “I thought you said you knew how to do it.” 

     She doesn’t, it’s fairly obvious, so he reaches over to slide the orange from her hand-- or what’s left of it. She got them sliced easily enough, no surprises there. 

     He hands her a towel, so she can get what’s left of the pulp out of her hair. 

    “You’re incapable of saying the words “I don’t know”, aren’t you?” 

     He takes a fresh orange half and sits it on top of the reamer, gesturing for her to press it closed.“So... it’s pretty bad if you’re worse in the kitchen than I am.”

“I’ve always wondered what it would be like if you left.”

     “Left?” He slides her an incredulous look. “Where the hell would I go? If you want space that bad, you leave.”

    He’s not serious. More like baiting her to see if she’ll spit out whatever the hell has gotten into her. There’s never any telling when it comes to Pantera. But despite the tone of his words, he’s ready to be patient. “If you have something to say, you should just say it.”
