Chara looks over at Frisk and gives them a smile, shaking their head. "Wasn't aiming for that, you know?" they say with a shrug.

Of course, they were.

It would have been easy to fall over that edge, now that the Underground was mostly empty. No one goes to where the original story began anymore, not when there's a much safer front entrance to New Home, instead of a hole in the ceiling of the outskirts of the Ruins.

Chara thought it would be been a bit... poetic. Ending it for real in the place where their and Cherie's story began. Chara was right at the edge, and had almost toppled through... They stopped and had caught their footing when they heard Frisk's voice.

"I wasn't sure if anyone really tried to come up here anymore. I mean, obviously, we all know the hole is here, and we can just about remember where not to step so we don't tumble in again," Chara laughs, moving back away from the edge. They slip their hands in their pockets, keeping their heartbeat steady and their breathing even. Don't let it slip what you were thinking. Just move to plan B.

"I came up to do stargazing. Sans let me know a few of his favorite constellations and I wanted to prove I could find them next time we hung out. Mom packed me some extra food, did you want to stay?" they ask them.

He had been smiling wide before he heard what Frisk said it froze in place looking fragile as glass, before he forced it normal, it didn’t look the same

His hands gripped his sleeves pulling them down to cover his palms “h-heh there a punchline there kiddo? I’m missing it if there’s a yolk, I’m fine Frisk”

Chara analyzed Frisk carefully, as if they were searching for something… then, without any warning, Chara moved, grabbing Frisk’s SOUL and the front of their shirt and push them against the tree they were sitting under, looking deep into their eyes.

“….Let the child pick this their fucking selves,” they growl. “Or so help me, I will hard-lock every SAVE file, and make it impossible for you to advance, Pacifist, Genocide, or Neutral. Your fun will end. No going back to any timeline. And if you think I’m kidding, try me.” There was a strange spark of fire in Chara’s eyes, something that had never been seen before….

But if you looked closer at Chara’s own red SOUL…

The cracks were no longer there. And it was beating strongly.

* Chara is filled with DETERMINATION…?!

“I’m more powerful than you. You could never actually control me. And that drove you crazy. But you figured out I was too weak before. I let you play your game long enough.

I’m done playing. I can and have ended worlds and brought them back, don’t you forget that. That wasn’t you that was me. You had to come to me for that power.”

“Release the Child.”

* Chara’s DETERMINATION shows no faltering.

* Chara is waiting for You.

"Well, damn, kiddo, I know I followed you a lot as a ghost and all, that doesn't seem very nice," Chara teases with a small chuckle. They then move to ruffle Frisk's hair and give them a smile.

"Yeah, of course I am. You think I'd just leave you?"
