Markus twitched his head to the side, his brow tucking down. 

“I don’t expect you to.” He murmured, fingers digging deeper into the arm of the chair he was in. “If I run into fire, you shouldn’t get burned trying to follow me.”

How did he say that it terrified him? How did he tell Simon that while his loyalty  touched him, it frightened him even more? His friends, his chosen family, his loved ones would follow him into death and he almost wished they wouldn’t. 

Markus cursed softly, under his breath, and pressed his hand to his mouth, his fingers closing into a fist, “That just-... scares me. You, Josh, North. You’d all follow, wherever I go. What if-”

His mismatched eyes flicked back up, “What if I get you all killed?”
