When he happened upon the manor, he thought for sure that it would be louder than it actually was. There wasn’t a person in sight. It was strange. But it didn’t matter. He hid in the shadows in the trees behind the manor, eyes continuously scanning the perimeter for any sign of life.
He adjusted the collar of his jacket, feeling more nervous than usual. He hadn’t forgotten anything. He knew better than that. There had been far too many close calls for him to leave anything behind. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves. He just needed to wait for his chance...
Once night had fallen, he made his move. It wasn’t difficult to get inside. But once he was inside, he didn’t know where he was going. His footsteps were fast but silent as he made his way up a set of stairs. A soft padding from further down the hallway almost caused his heart to stop in the spot.
He opened the nearest door and stepped inside the room, closing the door behind him as quietly as he could. When he turned, he looked down upon the face of the one he was supposed to find, staring up at him.
