Do you have an etsy shop?? I would totally buy everything you make. Everything. Yes, really. Also, can you explain the process of how you make some of your stuff? I’m very interested in how you made these things…
Eeeeeeeee. Wow. :D I have an Etsy shop but nothing’s in it currently and what I was selling there was tribal related. Lately I’ve been trying to figure out how I want to handle the shop. The pieces I posted recently are all from my own closet and weren’t planned for Etsy originally as they were either experimental or made for specific events.
As for process, well I’m largely inspired by video games, movies, and cultural research. I’m either making a piece for an event or because I have an idea for something that isn’t quite available out there in the form I would like it. When I’m designing with a character in mind, the pieces will be thematically related, such as with the Wavelength set.
I love designing, but don’t actually like sewing that much. I do a really rough sketch and either find patterns close to what I want and modify them, or just have to create it from scratch. Sometimes there’s a lot of trial and error. My dress form and buttloads of pins are invaluable tools during experimenting.
I also do reconstructs where I take apart something to create something else, in true wasteland fashion. The Sidearm pauldron I did is reconstructed from a torn up jacket and a backpack.
Due to my mad bargain hunting skills, I’ve become my own little fabric and trim store; I really like being able to just go into my ‘shop’ and pick from it if I feel like trying something out. So I have a packed inventory, just like in every game I play. :)
