If you look to the past versions of WordPress, you will see that adoption rate looks pretty bad. WordPress.org statistics page has WordPress versions distribution data, and WordPress 3.0 is still very dominant. New WordPress 3.3 is just around the corner, and no matter how good new version will be, in the next couple of months less than 15% of all WordPress websites will upgrade to 3.3.
