He removes his helmet as they approach each other, not bothering to drop it as his arms slide under hers, wrapping her both in a long-awaited embrace. The longer the war dragged on, the more agonizing their time spent apart became. Even stints of just a few weeks began to feel like eternity.
His cheek brushes against her forehead, pinpricks of stubble grazing her skin. He hadn't wasted any time cleaning up back at base before he departed for their rendezvous — there would be plenty of opportunity to do so at her department, without concern for time or privacy. She kept clothing and men's products on hand for a reason.
