Braden Holtby is indeed a delightful human! However, I do need to point out that Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly also decided not to go to the White House when the Caps won. (In fact, DSP was the first one to flatly turn down the possibility, even before Game Five. Brett Connolly agreed and also confirmed his decline in August of 2018. And of course, Holtby spoke about his decline at length in March of 2019.) SO, it is always Love And Respect Braden Holtby Time here, but it is ALSO Loving And Respecting Devante Smith-Pelly and Brett Connolly Time.

this podcast is from 2021 when the Ontario Reign had four Black players -- Akil Thomas, Boko Imama, Devante Smith-Pelly, and Quinton Byfield -- all skating together, and they discuss that a bit here (though the podcast is a lot of general shooting the shit). This was recorded during the season that Akil, Devo, and QB played together, not only forming the first all-Black line in pro-hockey since the Black Aces in the 40s but also combining for four goals and two assists on the night (including a hat trick from Akil).
