Long Island Might Open Up to Bringing Slot Machines
As previous reports show, the state of New York will most probably have new casinos in the near future, casinos which will not be managed by tribes. The local media reported that lawmakers are discussing the possibility of opening a slot machine establishment in Long Island. Senator Dean Skelos expressed the idea that under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan, a slot machine parlor could open for business in the near future.
Some claim that Manhattan would be the best place where the casino industry would develop at its best, as it is a region suitable for this type of investment, while Governor Cuomo is stating that the new gambling establishments should be placed in the north part of the city. The Governor is trying to stabilize the economic situation in the state by creating more jobs and generating more revenues from the casino industry.
If the proposal is accepted, Long Island might have over 2,000 slots. Besides the idea of opening land based casinos, some believe that new internet gaming proposals will appear in the near future, online poker being expected to become available first, when casino software developers will be able to offer their services to New York operators. Until then, lawmakers need to establish proper regulations.
