Concrete Blocks
I decided to I wanted to add height to my work , and wanted to experiment with concrete creating steps to appear altar-like. Initially I was planning on making a mould and pouring in the desired amount of concrete but due to the time it would take as well as the amount of Conti board need I opted to buy light weight concrete bocks and set them up to appear like steps.
As the concrete was very crumbly, I plastered it with jesmonite after applying PVA to seal it. I mixed pigment and marble chips with the jesmonite and then once dry I then used and wet stone polisher to buffer the surface and to allow the chips to show through.
Satisfied with the results however if I had more time I would have used some advice another student gave me during my crit which was to use oil to get rid of the scratch marks left behind by the polisher.
