Epic Games Gets Hacked
It seems like everyone these days are getting their sites hacked and their data compromised. Just yesterday we did a post about Codemasters getting hit in a fresh attack by hackers and yesterday afternoon I received this email from Epic Games:
Our Epic Games web sites and forums were recently hacked. After some downtime, they're back up and running now.
The hackers may have obtained the email addresses and encrypted passwords of forum users. Plaintext passwords weren't revealed, but it's possible that those passwords could be obtained by a brute-force attack on the encrypted passwords. Therefore, we have reset all passwords. Your new password at the bottom of this message.
The Unreal Developer Network (UDN) hasn't been compromised. Thankfully, none of our web sites ask for, or store, credit card information or other financial data.
We're sorry for the inconvenience, and appreciate everyone's patience as we wrestle our servers back under control.
The good news is that they didn't store any really sensitive information and they encrypted their passwords, but that doesn't mean your passwords are safe. Speaking of passwords though, please do yourself a favor and do not use the same password on every website, you are just asking for trouble if you are doing that. You should check out something like 1Password, I bought it and I couldn't recommend it enough, it's a simple program that will take care of all your password needs.

Details Emerge About PlayStation Network Hack
As I'm sure many of you are aware, the PlayStation Network hack is still in effect, for the fifth day in a row. Sony hasn't really said anything new at this point besides for what I outlined in my previous article, but a writer at Attackthefanboy just discussed the nature of the hack, and while the writer does not attribute the hack to any specific organization, such as Anonymous, he does go into detail about how exactly the hackers hacked into the network
A new loophole has been found that allows jailbroken PS3′s to access the developer network through a recently released custom firmware. Apparently, the custom firmware makes your PS3 into a rebug unit. This is said to be what developers that create the games use to test content on the network on private servers. The hack which grants the user access to developer network called dev-PSN, is then used to access the normal PSN servers by finding the address of public servers.
Now that the nature of the hack has been officially discovered and published online, hopefully Sony will speed up the recovery of the PlayStation Network, giving games renewed access by what seems to be at least Wednesday at this point.
