The development throughout the course of history made this genre as one of the most influential genre in music history. It does not only influence the continents of Europe and America, but it as it became more popular, more countries got involved with it. It first started in the 1800s, rooted from African-American music innovation. Jazz was used as a movement of rebellion, and freedom.
Jazz continued to be used for entertainment, mostly in night clubs, with audiences of young age, and people in the lower economic class. As musicians fused this genre with different styles it soon began to cause conflicts. Since there are obvious changes with different types of styles, such are bop, swing, smooth, etc. it still somehow roots back to jazz, which is the chords progression. Jazz was appreciated by a lot of people, but some hated it.
The changes in Jazz improved this music genre, because the process encountered some negative and positive reactions, which made musicians try to keep the essence of Jazz music. I don’t think the styles fully changed the traditional jazz that was first created in the 1800′s. Though it has some different style of playing, in the end, the jazz style is easily known. I think as a student who is studying about jazz history, it is important to be open to changes made in the jazz music genre, but still keep the raw traditions of jazz to keep its originality.
In this assignment, I want to discover how the changes of jazz has influenced our society (globally). I can do this through various blog posts that shows changes in jazz and people’s reaction to it. I would also reflect on the posts and write about how it affects the jazz genre. Since my topic is about the development of jazz, I should focus on its history, and how it is used in present time.
