An endless graveyard of creativity

I have noticed that something occurs here on tumblr a lot more often than on any other website.

Combing through the annals of this website to find artistic treasures has uncovered quite a few illustrations that cannot be traced back to their creators. For one reason or another their creators have vanished from the internet. Twitter gone. Pixiv deleted. Nothing saved on any of the major image repositories. No trace of their past, or present, or anything. Nothing anywhere at all.

Except on here. Tumblr remembers them. Tumblr remembers their efforts and their creations. It stores them deep in its history waiting for someone to stumble across them and bring them back into the light.

Tracing something once thought lost to time back to its creator is a joyous occasion. Moreso if that creator is still active.

But finding something lost to time whose creator is no longer active, or even worse who can never be found, is something else entirely.

Its a somber reminder that despite the internet being a forest lush with opportunity and creativity, it is also an endless graveyard for lost media that no longer has a history.

Im going to start adding any of these works that I find to the Lost Media tag. Maybe one day the creator will be found and the work given proper attribution.
