It was exhausting. Overwhelming. The news had finally settled over her and sat squarely on her shoulders, where it's weight felt like that of the entire world that had just come crashing down around her.
Had she known that their goodbyes that day would have held the danger of such permanency, she would have expressed her gratitude towards the others much more openly, in a way that would leave no doubts whatsoever that there was a place for them in her heart. Because if she was to be stuck in this city, then she would have to make the selfish and heart-wrenching wish to never see them again so that they may be spared this cruel fate.
She needed time to gather her thoughts, to plot out her next course of action. What better place to do this than the very apartment the Scientists had been so generous in assigning in order to commemorate her arrival?
Truly an unceremonious sort of affair; no announcement as she undoes the lock and allows herself inside, a quiet mumble asking to pardon her intrusion as she removes her shoes at the doorway. She hoped that there was a coffeepot waiting for her inside, because caffeine sounded like just the thing she needed at the moment to take the edge off her nerves.
The journey to the kitchen proves an eventful one, for it came with the revelation that this residence was to be a shared space.
Despite not currently being in the mood to partake in lively conversation, Naoto bows her head slightly in greeting to the boy that was rummaging through the refrigerator. It was only the right to do, and life here would only be easier if she could manage to get along with the people she was to board with.
“If I had known anyone was home, I would have announced myself. My apologies.”
She lifts her head, grasping the brim of her hat to keep it secured in place.
“Have the scientists been generous enough to let you know that you have a new roommate?”
