What a common cliche - to see a stranger in the street and be overcome with such powerful deja-vu that one simply cannot help but reach out to them and ask;
“I’m sorry, but is it possible that we’ve met before?”
Yet that exact scenario is what unfolds between the two of them. The young detective keeps a steely gaze on the brunette on the other side of the bench that separates them, fingers drumming lightly against the side of a disposable coffee cup in equal parts nerve and attempt to keep them warm in the increasingly frigid weather.
As both a detective and fan of fiction, Naoto recognizes that many cliches have earned their reputation as such. Gut feelings like these often lead to the break they needed to finally solve a tough case. Would this particular one provide any much needed answers?
“Last I remember this city, it was in a state of ruin so I doubt that it was anywhere here. But there was another... perhaps you had been a resident there as well?”

Ask my character "How do you feel about ______?" Can be an idea, person(s), place, or thing, and they'll have to answer honestly.

➤ homecoming.
The less than gentle sway of the cab is what rouses her, the one-two thump and creak as it meandered towards its destination - it had been just a moment ago she had closed her eyes in order to reflect on the long day put behind her, a single moment of contemplation on what had been done and how it could have been done better - and it is ultimately what first keys her into the fact that things are now different.
Before she even opens her eyes Naoto is all too aware that this is not the car she had been sitting in prior and that she was no longer being escorted to the media conference she had spent several hours of her morning going over her speech for. With breath held, the young detective opens her eyes in order to behold the scene she’s now found herself in. Half-expectations and worst fears are quickly lost in the descent of petal-pink showers that she recognizes all too well. It’s something that she recognizes as being WRONG -- and it's only then, when she places her hang against with window with more force than anticipated and presses her face up alongside it, that the driver of the cab tilts his head back in order to behold the spectacle with a smirk.
"It's really somethin', ain't it kid? Those cherry blossoms supposedly bloom all year round! Just one of the many draws of the Cotes ward. Or maybe you’d prefer to call it the Rasen ward? Either way, try not to worry about it too much. You’ll probably like it here."
Naoto was unsure which was worse; the fact she was once more plucked from her home, her life upended and interrupted once more? Or that while she recognized the area, if only vaguely anymore, that she hadn’t the slightest idea as to where it was she had been dropped off?
Hope was held tight in her hand, however. The cell phone was something she remembered, something that she was relieved to find on her person after a preliminary check of her person in order to see what all had been provided this time.
He had still been there, sitting at the top of her contacts with the little star by his name and Naoto could only assume that meant that he was still within this city. There are so many questions she already wants to ask and yet she swallows them back with her anxiety. Getting overwhelmed now would not do herself any good, nor would it do Edward any favors if it were the first thing he was greeted with after so long.
Leaning against the side of the building she could only presume was her new home, Naoto calls her friend’s number and fights the urge to hold her breath as the dial-tone rings in her ear.

➤ :: { Good afternoon, Isola!
It sure came as a surprise to find out that my app got processed not terribly long after being sent, and I actually have to do a bit of housekeeping in the meantime to really bring this blog up to par.
So, while I work on some promised starters and a permanent relationship plotter, please take this RP AD! Tentatively capped at 4, with all Persona castmates exempt
And while we’re here, hello! If this the first time you’ve met my Naoto, my name is Kirry! I look forward to writing with everyone again. }
eyndill:
there’s something elating about the moment when an intended target falls for their trap. without a doubt were they proficient at deceiving others, yet every time they feel something smug overcome them when the disguise holds up. they turn upon hearing the runt’s name spoken to address them, blinking bright eyes at the girl.
she seems a bit uncomfortable. had they missed an important conversation between the two?
the fall of the city comes to mind. best play this as carefully as possible.
“naoto?”
envy blinks again, turning to properly face the girl, lips parted, gaping as if they were shocked to see her. perhaps in some way, the feeling was truthful. edward would be happier than they are at current.
“yeah - yeah, i’m here.” envy frowns, turns their gaze to cast it along down the street. there aren’t many other people around, though the darkness from the blotted out sun may conceal others. envy didn’t feel any additional presences. “i’m not really sure what’s going on. there’s something strange about this city, but i can’t quite put my finger on it.”
returning their borrowed golden eyes to peer at naoto, they offer her a brittle smile.
“are you hurt or anything?”
Meeting his gaze for anything longer than a second felt as though it were some impossibly daunting task. Why was she having so much trouble with something so trivial? Under her breath, a small curse is uttered - a condemnation of her own inadequacy when it came to interpersonal relationships. Had any of the others been there, would they have given her advice?
Try as Naoto might to attribute the budding uneasiness she had felt to something - be it the jarring shift in location or the awkwardness of their reunion being in some dingy back-alley of a ruined city - in an attempt of placing rationality at the forefront of her thought process, something else entirely had long since settled in her gut. A feeling she recognized well due to how it had assisted her in the past but was baffled as to why it was manifesting at this moment.
“It doesn’t seem as though these are the ruins of that previous city... we might’ve been moved to an entirely different location.” She stalls, crossing her arms and glancing behind her as she frantically tries to decode the message her intuition was trying to send. “So many questions... How, and why? Was it just us, or everyone?”
There’s something about that smile that causes her gut to coil tightly as she catches it in her periphery. Why did he feel so distant?
“I’m... fine, Edward. Not a scratch on me, thankfully. And you?”
❛ Is everything okay? ❜
➤ ° • ? ( QUESTION SENTENCE STARTERS.
Such an innocent question, she thinks, but not put forth without good reason.
With a deep breath, Naoto affixes her mask of professionalism firmly in place
“Everything is fine,” is the half-truth told in an attempt to assuage any worry as the detective lifts her cap and runs a hand through her hair in order to smooth it back in place; any traces of the previous irritation on her features suppressed.
“However unnecessary it may be, though I do appreciate your concern.”
risetteon:
The announcement and everything that had played from her smartphone had confused her for sure, but she was also curious of it. Then again, there was the whole they had to comply and do this or else they would die, so that was worrying, but the curiosity had overtaken any other emotion she should have been feeling.
She leaves her housing, fulling intending to find someone to team up with is her goal. Though she ends up stopping in her tracks when she hears someone calling out for her and turns around.
Rise’s eyes widen in realization. She could never forget those she met in Inaba, her dear friends that had helped her so much, and she had helped in return.
“Naoto-kun! Yep, it’s me! I mean, who else would I be but myself?”
Had the two of them really been this close? They must have just kept missing each other is her guess.
“This isn’t the best reunion but I’m glad to see you here. Guess you saw that announcement as well?”
This was no cruel illusion nor a malevolent specter; Rise Kujikawa, as Naoto knew her, stood before her whole and hale. Inept as she was at properly expressing her feelings Naoto met her friend with a smile all the same, praying all the while that the underlying despair - Rise-san did not deserve this - was subtle enough to escape her notice.
How she wants to speak up, to vent about her hardships and discoveries that had accumulated over the past few months, but her lips remain pressed thin in a weak smile.
“You’re right ... no matter what happens, you will always be the Rise-san we’ve all grown so fond of.”
“You are correct. I was actually on my way out to take a better look at this mysterious entity in person.” Idly Naoto runs her thumb over the spiderweb fractures on the screen of her phone, which had remained powered off since she had dropped it, kicking herself mentally for not bothering to look so close to ‘home’ in the week since her arrival.
“However, perhaps now is not the time for idle gawking. Given that it’s likely that our lives may be on the line, we need to act. If you’ll join me, Rise-san, I know of a reliable individual that we can call upon to help us form a team so that we can take part in this and ensure survival.”
Anonymously tell my muse something you wish they would do.

From start to finish, the entire scene that had been broadcasted to her from the shattered screen of her smartphone had been utterly captivating. Naoto had remained transfixed in place, gaze unwavering, until the broken device had finally returned to its inert state - and it was then that she had begun running.
She wanted to see with her own two eyes the entity that had risen from the pit. That had been her intention! But it was the sight of someone else altogether that had stopped the young detective in her tracks.
Naoto Shirogane would never be able to forget those she had left behind in Inaba. Those she thought she would never see again.
“Rise-san?! Rise-san!! Is that really you, Rise-san?!”
She cries out, voice rising in desperation as she reaches towards that familiar silhouette that stepped daintily down the hallway.
Had she been this close all this time?

He breathes the cold air in, taking down notes of observation ever since plopping down in some new kind of area. This isn’t home, he knows that much ( home is more welcoming than this. ) First things first: find Alphonse. Nothing else really matters.
It’s difficult to count the hours spent running around every which way, asking people if they’ve seen a suit of armor walking around. His drawing attempt is poor, yeah, but he’s never really been very great at it. He can’t even draw transmutation circles the same way he used to – but why would he need to, if he’s never needed to make them? It’s not something he pays attention to, anyway.
He takes a moment to stop, breathes a big sigh of air, before he takes another step. Admittedly, he’s a little distracted, because he bumps shoulders with someone passing by him. He doesn’t think anything of it until he looks at them and notices – oh.
“Naoto?”
@shinjitsuka
Perhaps she shouldn't have been quite so engrossed in her phone, typing away at the note app that she had opened like a woman possessed in order to log her findings with one hand as the other idly rubbed at her eyes. Perhaps she shouldn’t have been so quick to flee from the center of the city after coming to the cruel realization that her half-hour of studying the hole and the ruins around it had compromised her condition.
By the time the hallucinations had set in fully, Naoto was full of doubt. Doubt that the motes of color that arranged themselves in fanciful shapes before her eyes held any weight or meaning, presenting themselves in this way to distract her from something more familiar that seemed to ever lurk in the distance and risked dealing a blow to her already wounded heart.
If only she had realized sooner that the flutter of red fabric as it trailed behind a familiar frame had been no mere illusion; her (blissful?) ignorance shattered on the ground with the screen of the smartphone as it slips from her hand, a mess that the young detective takes a quick step back away from as she beholds the ‘phantom’ that had eluded her.

she’s familiar.
and that makes them angry.
naoto shirogane. they know her name. they’ve seen her around the fullmetal kid - with increasing frequency. surely, they could be called friends, which envy loathed to acknowledge and further regretted never resolving. with the collapse of hive city, it had been expected by many to return home. however, that was no longer the case, and now that they see her, remember her, the idea comes to mind that - perhaps, should she not have hung around edward so much, the alchemist could have regained enough strength to take them home.
it is plausible. and it churns their blood.
SHIFT: edward elric
they pause in the alleyway, even after shifting into the brat’s form. the anger is still too hot in their veins. performing well took effort. effort that required being calm. they are a master at this - playing a role.
with a deep breath, they blink, golden eyes taking on something sharp, yet inquisitive.
then, they step into the street, before the blue-haired detective, coyly looking in the opposite direction with their hands on their hips.
“ah, man … ” a withering tone, perfect in cadence, mimicking the blond to a t.
It was all so unfamiliar.
Naoto’s heart refuses to settle - swaying to and fro with conflicting emotion. Had it been foolish to resign to the fact that they were going home when they truly knew nothing of the situation? Could she have put too much stock into the possibility of seeing everyone in Inaba again, boasting warm smiles and open arms?
Even worse still was that there was no way of knowing if the newest friends she had made, the small glimmers of hope in the ruins of a now discarded city, would ever be met again.
Try as she might to distract herself with the ruins that engulfed their limited range of the island in a meager attempt to solve the great mystery of what happened, anxiety looms precariously in the uppermost boughs of her cognition and casts its shade upon her entire process. Given this, wasn’t it only natural that she was taken back when one of the roots of her predicament makes himself known?
She said that she would not forget him, and forget him she did not.
“Ed...ward?”
Naoto hesitated, unable to quite bring her gaze over his form for too long as their wary not-goodbyes were thrust into the forefront of her busy thoughts and embarrassment overwrote whatever emotion had previously resided in her bosom.
“So, then... you’re here, too? I see.”
She was glad, awful as it for him to be stuck in this predicament once more, to see him safe.
despairingfalsesavior replied to your post: “This again?” “Don’t you people get tired of...
