This is your chance.
You have them all exactly where you want them.
You chased the Heralds back to their church, back to where this all started.
Fire follows you until you step into the church. The chains and birdcages dangling from the ceiling come crashing down. They smash against the pews and split the wood. The entire building seems to shake.
Yells and curses come from outside.
Their followers were trying to stop you.
But they would not succeed.
You throw your arms out and the doors go flying shut. They bang on the door, but they don’t budge. You walk down the center of the church.
“Finally, I have you all.” Your voice comes out dark and a smile creeps its way onto your face.
You take a step towards the row of lowly humans. You hold your arms out towards them in a mocking embrace. When they don’t move, your smile drops into a scowl.
“You’ve all been very bad children.” You say while pointing your finger towards the four.
You smile and clap your hands together, rubbing them together while glancing them over like fresh hors d'oeuvre.
“Hmm.. No response? Not even a peep?” You taunt and take another step forward.
Finally, Jacob makes the first move. He steps in front of his brothers and Faith.
“Stay back.” He growls out.
“Ahh! There we go! There’s that fire!” You point and turn back to the empty room as if there was an audience.
You turn back and pat your knees, “Come here, boy! Let’s play!”
You sit up straight, “Or are you scared?”
A smirk pulls at your lips. Jacob stays standing between you and his siblings.
“Get back in line.” You demand.
He doesn’t move.
“I don’t like disobedient little soldiers. Maybe this will make you listen.” You snarl.
You hold you hand out towards the three heralds behind Jacob. You slowly close your hand into a fist and watch as Joseph, John, and Faith begin coughing. They begin to bend over and collapse to the ground.
You watch as something switches on inside of Jacob’s head as he hears his brothers gasp and yell. His eyes meet yours and he takes a step backwards.
“Is this what you want, Jake?”
You walk towards him.
“To watch your family die in front of you? And you can’t do a thing about it?”
“No. No, please. Stop.” He pleads.
You grab Jacob by the collar of his shirt and drag him close to your face.
“That’s better. Now get back in line, Soldier.” You snarl and shove him back.
You release the others and take a single step back. You fold your hands in front of your body and take in a deep breath, smiling a jovial grin.
“Oh how exciting it was to enter this church for the first time.” You marvel, looking around at the remaining cages and chains that adorned the ceiling.
“When I first entered, I could feel the very sin licking at my flesh. The anger, the passion. I could feel it coursing through my veins.” You gaze at the painted words scrawled across the walls.
You walk up to Joseph and take his shaking hands into yours.
“And when I touched your wrists, I knew your fate was sealed.”
You reach up and caress his cheek before a different voice speaks.
“What are you?” John asks softly, catching your attention.
You release Joseph and look over towards John.
“Hmm...Let’s just say your brother wasn’t far off when he said hell followed.” You say with a wicked laugh.
“Why are you doing this to us?” Faith asks.
You smirk over at Faith.
“Because I was called here. I was summoned. I could feel the anguish and the wrath and the sin that flowed in this valley.”
“I was brought here by you.” You say, looking at Joseph.
“You said it yourself, Father. This is the apocalypse you’ve waited your entire life for.”
Joseph had no words. He simply stared at you, his hands quivering at his sides.
“W-Who are you really?” Faith asks.
“Well...I go by many names.” You say, stepping away from Joseph.
“They call me the Serpent, Satan, the Devil. And there’s many more awful nicknames, but what they used to call me was Lucifer.” You say as you walk in front of all of them.
“Would you like to see? To see how beautiful I am?”
You take several steps back, doing a slow twirl and stretching your arms out far and wide. Lightning comes flashing through the windows. Two huge shadows in the shape of wings are cast upon the walls and joining them are a set of shadow horns sprouting from your head.
You smile an evil smile and your eyes begin to glow red. You watch as they move ever so slightly closer to each other. Your wings and horns fade away back into darkness.
“Death sounds kind of nice right now.” John mutters to his brothers, eyes wide, staring at you.
“You sound kind of like a moron right now...” Jacob says under his breath as he still stares you down.
You simply smirk as you walk back in front them, your hands folded neatly behind your back. You inspect each of their reactions and let out a dark chuckle.
“No. I don’t think death will do. I think I’d like you all better as...pets.” You say, glancing from Jacob all the way across to Faith.
You then stop in front of John and gently take his face between your palms. You gaze almost lovingly into his eyes, “Yes, I like the sound of that. Don’t you, John?”
He doesn’t say anything. He just stares at you. “What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?”
You let out another laugh as you release the man’s face and back away.
You can feel the fear dripping from their bodies.
Even from Jacob.
You knew he had the least faith before, but he sure had it now!
You spread your arms out and lift them up into the air, similarly to how Joseph has done during his sermons.
“So beautiful, isn’t it? All the blood spilled, all the torture. It’s music to my ears. And all thanks to my dear Horsemen.” You chant.
“I’m afraid your God has abandoned you, just like he has abandoned me. But I have returned and now all hell will break loose on Earth as punishment for what He has done to me.”
You look down and point at Joseph, “I hope your people are ready, Father.”
More bashing on the door echoes out into the hollow building. You begin to laugh. You throw your head back and practically howl with laughter.
“Time to go home, Children.”
By the time the doors of the church burst open, the room is empty. There was not a single trace of the Deputy or their beloved Heralds.
