Stake Out || Nik and Liliana

“You big fuck…” Nik complains, opening the trunk to the current beater he was driving. Looking down at the mass of leather straps and black plastic trash bags. With a single hand, he reaches into the trunk and pulls free a pair of binoculars, slamming the trunk closed with a single hand before stepping back and around the car.
Taking a few steps toward the mouth of a nearby alleyway, Nik leans his shoulder against it. Keeping the binoculars in one hand, his other digs into the pocket of his jeans, pulling free a large aluminium rectangle. Popping open the case, he lifts it to his mouth, his teeth tugging a single cigarette from its contents before shutting it close swiftly. And with a click of the mechanism the base has built into it, he sparks the end of the cancer stick to life, inhaling deeply before exhaling twin plumes of smoke from his nostrils. Shoving the case back into his pocket, Nik pulls the binoculars to his eyes, attempting to get a look at a potential target on the third floor of a nearby building.
Liliana had always been a people watcher. It was what made her so good at reading people. Guessing what they were going to do, how they were going to react. It was one of the only things that could hold her attention for any amount of time. And she had years of practice. She could spot people who were out of place from a mile away. So bundled up in a nice coat as she was walking along a less traveled road, her eyes lingered on a figure standing down the way looking a little too like he belonged in the neighborhood. Standing back, she just watched as he held the binoculars up.
Walking up on him, anyway but silently, she looked him up an down a slight smile on her lips. “Those are gonna kill you, you know.” Her voice was sudden, so if he hadn’t heard her coming it would probably come as a shock. Pulling a sucker out of a wrapper, Liliana popped it into her mouth as she moved to his side and squinted in the direction he was looking. “Trying to catch someone cheating?”
