The Blind Angel || Mathias and Charlotte
When God sends an Angel down to Earth, it’s not be there when a bell rings so they can obtain their wings. Mathias was there to find someone.. or maybe something. Being in the Earth’s atmosphere felt claustrophobic, though. His wings would never be able to be out, there were too many noises, and the air always smelt awful.
In the Heavens he wore heavy wings with pride and honor and let them stretch larger than his own heavily built body. Stepping his first steps on cement was strange and caused his back to ache.
But when was the last time Earth was dark? Mathias blinked his newly cloudy grey eyes but no light seeped from any corner of the blackness that overtook his vision. That’s when it came to him. God said he would find this person, this thing, not by beauty of the mortal lives but the way it made him feel. Would he become blinded by the mortal lives that he would become distracted?
So far Earth made him feel like spilling his guts and he was guessing that’s exactly what his Boss up above wanted. Taking a deep breath he took steps forward before face planting into a wall. Pursing his lips , he listened intently and heard the sounds of wooshing and horns blaring and tunneling into his ears. He must not be in a heavily populated area.
Mathias out stretched his arms and took slow steps towards the open spaces before a warm sensation graced his skin. Sunlight. He stood there, basking in the great, zen feeling that washed over him. Did humans always feel like this in the.. the sunlight? The hard and soft sounds of pattering feet zoomed by him, causing his zen feeling to dissipate and instead his heart began to pound harder and harder with every step. To the outside eye he probably seemed frazzled and confused for he was basically a newborn baby.
A body finally came crashing into Mathias. He outstretched his hands and wobbled a few steps before instinctively searching around for whatever bumped into him. “A-Are you ok?” He piped out.
It had been a long time since Charlotte had felt as comfortable in a city as she did in Chicago. It had been the first place her sire had brought her after she had changed and throughout the years she always found her way back. She had only been home for about a month when she had taken on her role as a preschool teacher, and life had never been fuller for the vampire.
Out running a few errands, doing things that she couldn’t do walled up within the Tower confines, one arm was carrying the reusable bags that held her many purchases over the course of the day. With her free arm, a finger rotated the daylight ring she wore on an index finger as she bobbed and weaved between people as she made her way to her final destination of the afternoon. She had a date with a four year old and her T.V. that she wasn’t looking to miss after all. And the longer it took between each destination, the longer it would be before she’d get the pleasure of the little doll’s company.
Lost in her own mind, she ran smack-dab into a man who seemed to stumble more than she did despite the difference in their heights and weights. Which, understandable considering what she was. Making a show of it, one of the bags that wasn’t carrying anything breakable in it slipped between her fingers as an noise of shock was pulled from her lips. Peering up at him, she gave him a reassuring smile before her brows pinched together. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but something seemed off about the stranger.
“Oh! I’m perfectly fine. Simply dropped a bag is all. Are you okay?” she asked, concern laced in her voice as she tried to figure out just what it was about him. Tsking slightly, she bent forward hurridly to snatch the bag from the ground before some heavy-footed, rushed passerby decided it wasn’t worth it to watch where they were going. “You look a little peaky, dear, maybe you should sit down?”
