Mireya Dunn hadn’t beenone of those girls who’d ever imagined a perfect wedding or anythinglike that, but she’d always wanted to get married – maybe have somekids, the picket fence dream or a ranch full of animals, somethingsweet and blissful. Of course the latter felt unrealistic, but mostof it was out of the window now. Being married to the Actual Fuckin’Devil kind of screwed normalcy and daydream perfection from theequation, especially when he owned your soul.
As marriages went… Inall honesty? It sucked, but it could also be a lot worse. She hadn’tseen any fire that wasn’t on a candle, no brimstone or torture ordamnation; although he’d made it clear that emotions weren’t involvedwhere he was concerned. In spite of that, there were moments whereshe sometimes wondered differently, when he’d put his arms around heror pull her into a slow dance, when he’d just… Fool her socompletely. And even if afterwards she’d look back and feelconflicted, Mireya also loved them anyway. It wasn’t like Devil gotanything out of those moments, after all. So didn’t that mean he wasdoing them for her happiness, and for nothing else?
It had been days sinceMireya had seen him last, and he didn’t arrive back home until theevening. She didn’t hear him when he did: treading silent as thegrave as he slunk up to the kitchen counter and slid his arms aroundher waist. The blonde jerked with fright, cursing out loud as theDevil chuckled, pulling her gently back against his body. He was alittle dressed down: no jacket or tie, just a black dressed downshirt that matched his favourite suit trousers. He knew better thanto wear shoes around the house, too – Mireya’d told him off aboutthat if he was planning on walking around, which was funny, becausenobody else whose soul he owned would dare tell him what to do.Marriage was interesting like that.
“Don’t do that!”She chided, “You scared the shit out of me! I thought I was goingto get murdered!”“Mm. What an attractive image to burn intothe mind’s eye.” He purred sarcastically, and as he leaned down toset a kiss on her crown, she leaned up on her toes to meet him. “Justhow I love to be welcomed home.”“I know. Halloween’s not foranother week, by the way.” Mireya added, voice oozing sass as shedrew away. She took a sip of the juice she’d poured, adding a bitmore before screwing the cap back onto the carton. “But I’m gladyou’re enthusiastic. — What?”
His dark eyes wereroving over her. She had on an oversized, navy blue sleep shirt withlong sleeves, showing off her long, bare legs. Even with her hairjust left loose and slightly messy and an ‘unmade’ face, the Devilcould appreciate her beauty. The way her soul shone and surged in itsvessel only made her more appealing.“Nothing.” He liedsmoothly, taking a step forward so that he towered over her. Hishands moved to her waist, steering her to rest back against thecounter, properly facing her. “I was just thinking that I could eatyou up…”Her brows rose, lips quirking into an amused smile, but before Mireya could quiz him again the Devil had leaned down tokiss her. She didn’t reject him, stopping only to catch her breathfor a second before moving in for another. One of the monster’s handslet go, a simple twitch of clawed fingers switching off the musicthat was irritating him in the background, and then he hoisted her upto sit on the cool kitchen surface so that they were more level.
When they finally broketheir lips away, their breaths were heavier and more ragged withlust, Mireya’s dark eyes drifting from the other’s mouth to peer intothe Devil’s unnatural ones. They were still mere inches away from oneanother, the young woman’s arms looped loosely about hisshoulders.“You make it so hard not to love you sometimes.”She confessed, almost resentfully. It sounded like a tease, but therewas truth in her words.“Should I stop, then?”“No.”
Mireya was the one tomove first this time, their eyes closing as they lost themselves tothe moment. Soft fingers feathered through fluffy black hair,,grazing solid horns as his claws pinched her sides and drew linesalong small thighs. His forked tongue met her own, and neither caredfor how much time passed, filled with such urgent and wanton kissesand touches that it was as if the world were about to end. Then,Mireya stopped to whisper out a command.
“Bedroom.”
The Devil let out awicked chuckle and growl through bared fangs, sweeping her from thecounterr, Mireya wrapping her thighs around his waist. He spunaround, but didn’t walk or rush. Instead, the surroundings of thekitchen seemed to melt away, replaced by the bedroom and a bed rarelyshared by two. The sheets were made. Everything looked neat and tidy, barely disturbed even as he dropped Mireya down to pounce on top ofher. Sinful hands began to undo buttons, lips and teeth marking theirdesire on porcelain skin.
It was so rare to fallasleep in the Devil’s arms, but even rarer a thing to wake up inthem. Mireya could feel the heat of his body wrapped around her, brown eyes opening slowly to the sight of dark hairs on the monster’sbare chest and the feel of a clawed hand loosely draped over her. Shemust have forgotten to set her alarm, but that didn’t matter. Heleaned down to kiss her forehead, silent, and then she kissed him onthe lips.
She could stay here alittle longer. After all, there was nowhere else Mireya would ratherbe.
