Perimeter Trail, Southeast corner of Oak Grove Dr. & Foothill Blvd, La Canada Flintridge, CA 91011
The Perimeter Trail is approximately 3.1 miles roundtrip though there are few markers and the area is currently undergoing renovation/habitat restoration. I thought the trail would take me around the perimeter of the Devils Gate reservoir area but it didn’t seem to go all the way around.
I parked at Hahamonga Watershed Park and walked towards Devils Gate Dam. A sign there listed the Perimeter Trail. I crossed over the dam and headed towards the wetlands area. There was a lower trail and an upper trail on the hillside. The lower trail ended by JPL. There were a few smaller trails that one could take to walk around a flat area with lots of rocks.
Watch out for horse poop. There’s a LOT of it. I also saw signs for poison oak and rattlesnakes. There was very little shade. I ran into about 6 people during my walk. There are a few birds in the area, including an endangered one called least Bell’s vireo.
3 out of 5 stars.
