robby nods, takes a long, slow breath even as his heart is breaking. the part of him that's a doctor fights its way in front of the part of him that's a boyfriend, a partner. right now, jennifer doesn't need the version of him that's protective, that will sit with her through it. right now, jennifer needs someone who will get her the hell out of this bar, who will help her remember how to breathe. 'okay,' he says softly, brows furrowed and eyes focused on her, 'then let's get you out of it.' with only the barest glance down toward his pocket, robby fishes a couple of twenties out of his wallet and tucks them under his unfinished pint. 'let's get out of here. do you want my hand?'

michael hears her walk into his living room, but he doesn't look up just yet– he's on a pretty exciting passage of the book he's been reading, and he'll put it down in one second, he swears. the couch cushions dip just slightly as he feels jennifer settle beside him and he reaches absently to rest a hand on her knee. he's about to make some mumbled excuse when her fingertips slide into his field of vision, gently pushing the book down into his lap.
and while he might ordinarily have protested, he can't help but smile as she presses her lips to his. the book is laid haphazardly open over the arm of the couch in the hopes that it'll keep his place as robby lifts a hand to rest against jennifer's cheek. "hi," he murmurs when she pulls away. "am i falling down on the boyfriend job?"
