A few days later after we get back home from England, Jake was napping and Glen was in a meeting for a project he was working on I sit on the couch with Brisket and start putting pictures from our trip on Instagram. As I look through the pictures I smile when I see some of us all together as a family, I laugh softly as I post a picture of Glen with pieces of toast and the several jars of jams and jellies he had bought at the market we had visited I keep scrolling and see the picture I had taken of Jake with Charlie the Irish Wolfhound. I smile to myself Jake's smile and Charlie's large brown eyes I had been thinking of the gentle giant a lot since we had left how friendly he was, the wag of his tailed and how even Jake had liked him even though the dog had been so much bigger than him I post the picture with the caption "Jake meeting a new friend." I scroll through and continue posting a few more pictures from the trip.
I look down from my meeting on the laptop and see that Beth had shared pictures to Instagram I look through and share a few to my own page as I listen I see the picture of Jake and Charlie then save it to my phone I could tell that Beth had been fond of him the way she had petted him when we visited the farm. She had also mentioned the dog or wolfhounds in general during the rest of the trip and also a few times since we had made it back home I knew that with me traveling and having a few projects coming up a second dog might be a bit much on her since we already had Jake and Brisket but the size of the dog would be a good thing no one would mess with Beth, the house or Jake with something that big around. As the meeting continues I think to myself about talking to Beth to see if she would be like to have her own wolfhound.
That evening as I start putting dinner on the table Glen walks in and goes over to Jake in his high chair he kisses his cheek "How was the meeting?" I ask him curiously he looks up at me and smiles "I'm working on something kind of big." I smile as I put his plate on the table "I can't wait to see it." I tell him before sitting down and giving Jake a spoonful of his favorite mango baby food. Glen reaches out and rubs my arm lightly and I look over lightly "I've been thinking pretty girl you've mentioned Charlie and wolfhounds several times and I saw the pictures you posted of him and Jake I know that I travel a lot and we have Jake and Brisket but if you think you can handle it we will get our own gentle giant." I smile at his words and squeeze his hand. "It won't be too much I would love one and I think we can make it work Charlie seemed so friendly I don't think Brisket or Jake would have any problems with having one around." I tell him excited I couldn't wait for us to have one of our own.
I spend the next week doing as much research as possible wolfhounds were good with kids and small dogs so things were good there I was also spending time searching for breeders in Austin that would have them. I had called several different animal shelters, pet rescues and pounds and these weren't breeds that were common there I wanted us to be as responsible and as ready as possible for when we could finally bring home our new gentle giant. Beth had already been visiting pet stores she had two new bowls ready, a few new toys, a bag of treats and some dog food for larger breeds I knew how excited she was about this and I was excited too about our new furry friend the addition would definitely make things interesting that was for sure. Finally I find a breeder that was a bout a hundred miles away I send them an email telling them what I was looking for and they respond almost instantly they had a male that would be ready in a few weeks I make an appointment to meet with them to pick him up, I couldn't wait to see Beth's face.
I hear a loud thump against the front door as it opens and Glen walks in a few seconds later a large shaggy gray head peeked around his legs I smile when I see him. Glen and the dog step into the house he closes the door behind him as the dog trots over to me, I smile then kneel down in front of him before petting him and scratching his head his tail starts wagging and it starts hitting the table. "Hello you." I tell him happily Glen walks over and rubs his head "Welcome home big guy." He tells him I look up at him and smile "He's really ours?' I ask her nods quickly "All we have to do now is name him." I look at the dog and think for a moment then look back up at Glen "How about Angus?" he grins before chuckling softly he pulls out his phone and takes a picture. "Welcome to the Powell family Angus." He tells him happily, I smile before hugging Angus tightly I knew he was going to make the perfect large addition to our family.
