CHAPTER 6
"Ok, let's try this again. Pay attention." Lucifer muttered an order, watching the blonde as her attention was brought back to him. "Now remember it's left, right, left, right, like this." He explained, her bright blue eyes following his movements as he stepped through them. His arms were up as if he were holding an invisible partner.
His feet moved from one to the other so flawlessly. In this moment he seemed so at peace and weightless, as if he hadn't just jumped from Heaven and winded up being the king of Hell. Lucifer supposed it was better he be a King in Hell than meaningless in Heaven.
"This is going to be very popular on Earth, I promise you." He continued, sureness lacing his tone, a smirk gracing his lips as he stopped his little dance. "Now were you paying attention?" He quizzed with a raised brow.
Those bright blue eyes sparkled with delight gazing up at him. A full blown smile stretching her mouth, a giggle echoing out of her lips.
"You weren't listening to a thing I said, were you?" Lucifer questioned her, stepping closer to where she sat.
She couldn't hold back her laughter at the sight of his disappointed expression and his eyes simply rolled back. She was beautiful when she laughed. The way her head fell backwards and eyes shone with pure delight was simply magical to witness. How lucky he was to have such a light in his life of darkness, like her.
"Didn't hear a thing." The woman spoke, her smile never fading at the unimpressed look on his face, "I'm sorry, darling."
"Fine. But just so you know, my love, you are robbing yourself of what will be a great trend with humanity." The devil huffed in annoyance, collapsing on the bed beside her in frustration.
The woman with hair of gold leant back on her elbow, her licks tickling the devils cheek as she leaned over him. "You know I couldn't possibly keep up with you, my love, even if I tried," she spoke, honey leaving her tone as her fingers danced on the line of his jaw, "and we both know I'd most likely end up falling on my face." She continued with a whisper.
His dark eyes met her bright ones, "If you fell you wouldn't trust me to catch you?" He quizzed the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes upon.
Her eyes shone with delight at his words, "I trust you."
"Well then..." The dark haired devil began as he began getting up, grabbing her hands in his as he did. His mouth curved in a small smile, "you have nothing to worry about then."
A giggle left her lips once more, her head falling back again as he pulled her closer to him.
"Now, this hand goes on my shoulder," Lucifer explained, watching as she held his shoulder, "and then this hand goes in mine," their hands interlocked with one another, "then my hand goes here." With that said, his arm hooked around her small waist, making her stumble closer into his chest, "caught you."
"I don't think that quite counts, darling." She chuckled, resting her head against his muscled shoulder.
His feet moved so swiftly and agile, the led her to exactly where she needed to go next. He hummed softly, "left, right, left, right..." he began, pulling away slightly to look into her eyes, "see, you're perfect."
"Only with you, darling." The woman smiled softly. She stared up at his, her eyes hazed in a dream like state. The devils eyes mirrored hers perfectly, perhaps even deeper that dug deep into his soul.
"You know I wonder..." He began trailing off, softly speaking in her ear in a husky tone.
She purred, "wonder what, my love?"
His eyes sparked with a burst of red, not out of anger or annoyance, rather at the feeling of his heart speeding up at her words.
The devil whispered, "I wonder... will you dance with the devil forever?"
"Pay attention." Lucifer spoke, watching the blonde as her attention was brought back to him. "Now remember it's left, right, left, right, like this." Familiar bright blue eyes followed his movements as he stepped through them. His arms were up as his feet danced one at a time across the large room until finally he stopped, looking down at his audience who was sat on the floor. "A princess needs to know how to dance, Tenebrae." Lucifer chastised his little girl who simply smiled up with an a gapped grin.
"Da!" The infant voiced her agreement.
Lucifer tolled his eyes light heartedly at her word, "that doesn't excuse you for that heinous first word of yours." He spoke pointedly, remembering her words to be his brothers name rather than her own fathers. He strutted over to the child, picking her up from under her arms and lifting her over his head. "Such betrayal, little princess."
The tiny blonde giggled with glee, "Da! Da!"
"Hmmm yes, now let's see if you were really paying attention," Lucifer whispered with a strange sense of excitement. Every day with her, it seemed, was a gift. Every new thing she learnt was a joy to watch.
The devil plopped her down, holding her hands to help her stand up, watching her as he let go. For a few moments she wobbled on chubby legs before standing straight; all by herself. Lucifer leaned back slightly, cocking his head and pouting in surprise. Both their eyes lit up in shock and surprise for a moment... before her knees gave out and she fell back, her near featherless wings coming out and flailing about.
Lucifer snickered, picking her up once more and holding her little hands between his thumb and pointer. Her chubby legs made stumbling steps closer to him until they were toe to toe. Lifting the tot up in the air, her useless wings spread as if ready for take off, and only when her feet were put down on top of his own did they revert back.
"Now you can follow the steps easily, little princess." He chided with a chuckle, moving his feet slowly in short distances, rotating in tiny circles with his baby girl. He smiled softly at her focused expression staring down at their feet, "you're certainly doing better than my last student."
For a moment the pair just danced in their own little circle, neither making a sound as they danced in the halls of the kingdom of Hell.
"I thought the rumours weren't true." A voice called from the far end of the hall. Lucifer s head snapped to the side, his grip tightening on tiny hands. Tenebrae continued to watch their feet although they now remained still and instead her main focus was consistently stomping on her fathers feet.
Lucifers devil face came to surface.
"My Lord! I'm sorry to intrude! I just couldn't help myself once I had heard the news..." The voice uttered with a tone of disbelief.
"What news would that be, Dromos?"
His eyes lit up in delight, catching sight of her small body as he continued to creep closer. "That you have given us an heir to Hell."
An heir? Is that all she was? No, she wasn't. His brow raised in question, "Is there something else you needed?"
"No, my Lord. I simply wished to see your offspring, the one who I shall serve every day she may reign," He started as if it were simple. Before long Dromos was mere metres away, his decrepit and disfigured face held the toddlers attention.
"Right, well, you can stop staring at her like that." Lucifer commanded.
"It was so wise of you to bear offspring for the future of Hell, that is why it came to be, no?" Dromos continued to interrogate his Lord, eyes not moving from the infant. Tenebrae looked uncomfortable to be close to the demon, it seemed Maze was the only demon the little one even partially liked. Lucifer's minion cocked his head in confusion at the dark Lord, "you are keeping her for Hell my Lord? Not for any personal reasons..."
Lucifers face contorted in confusion. What was Dromos trying to tell him? The devil chocked out a fake and unamused laugh, holding the infant somewhat tighter in his grasp, "why would that be a concern, Dromos?" His tone sounded like a threat itself.
Dromos thought through his words for a moment, but there was no 'light' way to phrase it. "Well, we wouldn't want history to repeat itself, my Lord."
Dark eyes went stone cold, "leave, Dromos." Was all he could utter, his red face twitching to come to the surface. His eyes blazing with the colour of blood. The puny demon left faster than you could tell him to 'go to Hell', the doors shutting loudly behind him.
"What was all that about? Why was the gimp leaving so fast?" Mazikeen asked, strolling into the room the moment her sibling left. She wandered closer, "Lucifer?"
All he felt in his body was rage, confusion and... doubt.
He looked up his bright eyed daughter, who mirrored her mother, from her eyes, to her nose and even to her toes. History repeat itself?
The Devil wasn't going to let that happen.
His gaze strayed from his daughter, feeling repulsed now, his arms dropping her in the female demons, not watching as his daughter squirmed and continued to reach for him. Her mewls turning into cries shortly.
"Lucifer?" Maze asked shocked, looking at the devils most prized possession, "Lucifer! Where are you going? Come back! Lucifer!"
The doors shut behind him as he kept walking. History was repeating itself, but he wouldn't let that happen, so the devil just kept walking, away from his princess, his little shadow.
Away from it.
