So like, I can’t decide if this little passage is something I need to edit or not.
I suck at detailed description of characters, so when Talia (a vampire) meets Devonte Wells, I have this little brief description:
Devonte, on the other hand, veritably towered over Mark and Amanda, and was visibly muscular. His short hair was practically a buzz cut - but the Doctor Who T-Shirt he wore somewhat clashed with the 'scary black man' stereotype he could probably have easily pulled off if he wanted to.
Not that I can ever be too scared of someone I can lift and toss fifty feet without breaking a sweat.
I mean, Talia isn’t meant to be a racist character or come off as racist, but I’m wondering if describing him that way makes her look racist. I mean, it is playing to the ‘scary black man’ stereotype at all, and Talia is thinking it. The point is just to get the basic idea of how he looks across before moving on to the rest of the scene and the discussion, but now I dunno.
