Devouring Inferno
I wish I could love thee not. For a fire contained, Though raging, Will burn out eventually, But the damage Left in its wake Will remain. A reminder of its course Through mine heart.
There will be a trail of ash, Visible for all to see. Every delicate blossom Born of love's kiss Will wither and die.
The flames appear inviting, Promising warmth and light. I let them in, Allowed them to entwine With mine soul. I was a fool. For now I lie Scorned and scorched Knowing I will never Truly heal. Forever thy love Has left scars Upon me.
Deceived by the blaze I watched As it danced before me, Dazzling mine eyes And ensnaring mine senses. I was consumed ere I knew it had begun. Now all that's left Are embers Slowly suffocating Lest someone bring them To life once more.
I wish for solitude. Time to rebuild What was lost. Nothing can grow In a barren field.
Beware Of the intoxicating glow. Keep your distance From its nimble fingers. Don't let them catch you again. For fire may provide But what it does best Is burn.
(Forgive the weird sounding old language. I was inspired by Will, the new Shakespeare show lol)
