she grew up with 4 other siblings who all went into incredibly stereotypical overachiever fields (doctor, lawyer, engineer, wall street freak)l, so she's lived with the burden of being an overachiever in the arts.
she used to play for the zuzu city philharmonic as associate concertmaster. she was going to try to get a step up, and boy was she on track for all that. but one day, she kinda cracked under the pressure and when a rehearsal went wrong, she lost it. she threw a tantrum and in this day and age, that was posted all over the place. she got dumped from her sponsorships for her bad behavior, and the philharmonic asked her to take a leave. indefinitely.
so that's what she's here in pelican town, living with her aunt to recuperate from the hell that she made of her own life.

meet conrad, your local pretentious librarian. he's valley born and bred, from a mother that's been in the valley for generations and a father that fled city life to join her and her family in the valley. they were quiet, and older parents, and his father was a big reader, so conrad spent many days indoors or at the valley's library. the greatest days of his childhood are when he got to go to zuzu city and visit its museum
went to the capital for college and then travelled around the ferngill republic AND the gotoro empire AND other countries that are unnamed because I don't know any more canon ones, and he will never, ever, ever shut up about his travels there. like a study abroad guy but worse.

born to the world’s most boring parents and six other siblings in a big old house on the outskirts of zuzu city. his mother was an important corporate lawyer and his father was a surgeon, so marcel was often left in the care of his assortment of nannies… and often getting lost in the shuffle of his siblings. though wealthy, he was very lonely.
after learning slight of hand tricks from his weird old man neighbor that was a scammer before marcel was a twinkle in his mother’s eye, marcel became committed to the art and craft of magic. sure, a few doves might have died in the process, a few dozen cards shuffled across his room and left under his bed for the maid to pick up later. but marcel was determined. once he was old enough, he would sneak into the downtown of zuzu city, putting on magic tricks and scamming tourists with slight of hand wallet theft. he does know how to make a quarter come out of someone’s ear though.
eventually marcel ran away from home when his parents refused to support his magic career, and went on the road, performing first with the circus. after five or six years with them, he disappeared with a stolen cart and one of the trapeze artists, who became his assistant and on and off lover. they worked together tirelessly for years, happily scamming people, performing basic magic tricks, promising to predict the future and flopping at it, you get the picture. sometimes marcel would go broke and would have to cry to his parents to fund his next scam or magic venture, including cart upgrades and the wonderful super fancy tent setup he’s currently in in the calico desert.
of course, this time when his cart broke down a mile away from stardew valley in the, marcel’s parents finally got sick of funding him and cut him off. his longterm assistant couldn’t bear the desert heat and how annoying a whining, broke marcel was, and left a month and a half ago. marcel is now saving up to fix his cart and go back on the road again. he’s also looking for a new assistant, so hit him up.

corina grew up in the gotoro empire. like kent, her dad enlisted in the war and had been away for most of corina's life. when people ask her about her father, all she remembers is the smell of black coffee and the feeling of a 5 o'clock shadow against her cheek.
corina's mother was a strong woman. but as strong as she was, she was also gentle. corina's mother had a best friend who also had a kid. she treated that kid as if they were her own. if it weren't for the fact that they looked nothing alike, corina and [name here, idk possible future connection, i'm thinking 23842398 steps ahead bro] would have looked like siblings.
corina always felt stifled. she was just too big for her britches. she knew that there was more to life beyond the gem sea. the gotoro empire had siphoned the vibrancy and life out of her hometown, and corina desperately needed more. that being said, she never pushed the boundaries of the life she had. she was loudly obnoxious, but quietly obedient. she would make a mess in the kitchen and storm off when she got scolded. hours later, once her mom was back asleep, she would sneak back downstairs to clean it all up.
as soon as she turned 18, she joined the crew of a merchant ship. unfortunately, the merchant ship followed the strict maritime boundaries of the gotoro empire. as mentioned before, corina thirsted for life beyond the gem sea. since then she's worked odd jobs along the docks, her favorite being a crewmember to fishing boats. she liked those suckers.
eventually, she finally crossed a line when she was 25. corina found a merchant who smuggled goods to the ferngill republic, and she negotiated her way onto the ship. she left her mom a note with instructions on how to find her savings (it was a piggy bank. that's all.), and she left her best friend a locket that corina had haggled for on one of the many merchant ships. corina sailed across the gem sea and found herself in the ferngill republic for the first time ever in her life.
she was so anxious about leaving the empire that she threw up multiple times on the trip despite being sea-ready. this anxiety lives with her and she hasn't gone back to the gotoro empire since.
now, she's a traveling fisherman who ports in towns that have access to joja mart as well as became known as traveling merchant hubs. joja mart just made her life so easy. argue with ya mama.
she's soooo pirate-presenting. she's confident and brave. she WILL defend herself in a bar fight, but she'll never start one. she lives on her boat by the tidal pools whenever she's in town, and she's not shy about inviting consenting adults back to rock the boat with her.

born and raised in the ferngill republic's capital city
her family didn't have a lot of money growing up, but her parents always thought her education was really important. they even applied for her to attend a private school on a scholarship, and she got in.
they were always very strict with her about her grades and extracurriculars and anything that would look good on a college application, and whitney really did want to make them proud
the kids at her school were not very nice and would sometimes bully her for being poor, but she just took it, knowing they were idiots and one day it would all be worth it
went to an ivy league school for undergrad where the people were not much nicer, and then a second one for her mba. all the while, she kept her nose in the books, never making many friends because she was too busy studying, studying, studying to keep her scholarships and her eyes on the prize.
right out of her mba program, she landed a spot in joja mart's prestigious district manager program. she spent the first year of her job managing a joja mart store somewhere else in the ferngill republic. the hours were long and hard, but her boss saw something in her and continued to push her.
as the second year of the program, she is a district manager in training, and the valley is one of her stores.
the valley is...new to her, to say the least. she has always lived in the city, so it's a not-so-welcome change of pace, but like everything whitney is just taking it in stride. the company bought a house for her to stay in as she travels in and out of the town often, though they really want her to focus on the stardew valley store because it hasn't been performing as well as some of its peers.
whitney is determined to bring it from last to first in the district, showing joja leadership just how dedicated and good at her job she is.
has been here three months but hasn't really talked to anyone and it hasn't been going as well as she wants it to. realized she needs to talk to people more to understand the market, so getting out her routine more and trying to meet people.

born and raised in kingston, new york. the only child of minerva and nico park. he is of korean-italian descent; his mother is korean and his father italian (nico took minerva's last name when they got married.)
grew up in a very loving family and has strong connections with his father's side of the family. he also is extremely close to his mother's younger sibling's families, but not so much with the older siblings who live in south korea still.
he's had high expectations forced upon since he was born as he was the first grandson on his father's side of the family, and thus expected to look out for his generation of the family. this bleeds over to his mother's side of the family as well since he was the eldest grandchild in the states.

Rosalyn lived most of her life in California. She did, however, have fond memories of going to Pelican Town every summer when she was younger. She missed it, so she wanted to go back, now here she's been for the past ten years. Rosalyn is 38 and she is thriving. About five years ago, she took over the ranch after her aunt passed it on to her, having lived there. Her aunt had always lived there and looked after her in the summers when her parents were busy, losing her had been hard, but she did her best to grieve and adapt and move on.
Back in California, Rosalyn worked at a local shopping mall and she was constantly being bullied by customers, either because of her looks or because they didn't deem her good enough to direct them in fashion choices, whatever that means. Rose likes to think she has quite a good taste in fashion and she shows off her cute looks in town whenever she can.
She's got quite the happy outlook on life, or she tries to. Despite that, Rosalyn deals with some severe asthma, has done since she can remember and keeps inhalers on her at all times. That and she's prone to getting infections when she least expects it, so shes' always trying her best to stay healthy. She was all too used to people making comments about her weight and her health back home, but honestly, she's doing better now away from all of the toxic people that had been in her life before.
She's happier in Pelican Town despite her loss too. Her parents keep in touch, they even visit on occasion, but they are not as close as she ever would have liked given they put work before her. And don't even get her started on her own relationships. Back in high school, Rosalyn had been all too used to being asked out 'as a dare' or just because she was the only one without a date left. She decided to not date after her last ex ditched her for someone else on prom. She wouldn't mind finding love again though, in fact, she's a romantic at heart and always reading romance novels when she's got the time.
Time she doesn't have a ton of these days. The ranch is busy. Between taking care of the animals, helping out the town and attending events, Rose is busier than she had ever been, but she's happier. She feels better treated here than she ever did back in her own town. In a way, Pelican Town had always been a home away from home and she wouldn't change it for a thing, because it is her home now.
