the nippy wind of the night air hit akari's cheeks as she sat at one of the local parks. the bench wasn't entirely comfortable but she'd desperately needed a break from her studies. now, she found herself in her happy place; a sketchbook in her lap and her camera next to her side. luckily for akari, the park wasn't very active this evening. the redhead simply continued to sketch along the curvatures of the waves she was drawing. simplistic, yet she strived for realism in the water and the droplets flourishing from the small splash and ripples.
whiskey orbs landed on the pond not too far from her position and since it was getting later, she knew the sun would start to fade. placing down her sketchbook and tucking the pencil neatly inside, a soft sigh escaped her peach lips. the student needed photographic proof of the pond to analyze later for her drawing. it couldn't go unfinished -- not yet.
reaching for her trusty camera, akari approached the pond at the right angle and began to work the lens of the camera. she wanted the perfect lighting bouncing off the dimly lit street lamps above, wanted the ripples to be vibrant and alive. after successfully snatching a few shots, she beamed a smile that proved she was proud of herself. twirling on her heel, she was blindsided by a pair of skateboarders, one of them knocking clear into her arm and her camera hit the pavement hard.
"sorry!" the stranger yelled in passing, the two boys laughing as they rolled on.
kneeling, like a fragile article she gingerly picked it up and noted the thin crack in the lens. "shit." she cursed to herself, knowing this would be a costly fix. "how am i going to afford this?" with her job as a barista, she'd have to save for weeks. worse, her photography project was due in a couple of days for the club and she'd yet to even find her subject.
