He’s definetely serious about the whole realationship, since he wouldn’t even think about it if his feeling wouldn’t have overwheeled him. Do they must be strong enough for him to act.
He would thought about everything beforehand. What could go wrong, what could go right. He tries to bury his feelings with his overthinking, however that’s useless if they are real. So he give up on trying this and just accept the fact.
