> Present: Attorney’s Armband (to Barok) Naruhodou: “...Um, about this...” van Zieks: “What is that.” Naruhodou: “This is the symbol as a defense attorney of the Japanese Empire.” van Zieks: “...What good does it do for you to show this to me, a prosecutor of the British Empire?” Naruhodou: “Th.... That’s, uh...” van Zieks: “........... Yet. There is meaning to wearing it, to help you remember where you stand.” Naruhodou: “Eh...” [Barok puts his hand over the badge on his chest.] van Zieks: “It is not necessary to insistently show it to people. Simply do not let it leave your body.” Naruhodou: “Y... Yes. Thank you very much...”

>Examine: Bats [A cloud of bats fly at Ryuunosuke’s direction.] Naruhodou: “...Wah!? Those were... bats!” Iris: “I wonder, are they the Reaper’s disciples?” Naruhodou: “But that black-clad, taciturn guy is already one. ...He can’t fly though.” Iris: “Then, maybe ‘friends’? I mean the Reaper’s.” Naruhodou: “............... I’d like to think ‘disciple’ doesn’t sound as bad.” Naruhodou: (At any rate, that’s scary...)

when you examine the teaset in ryuu’s office, ryuu recalls that he once gave sherlock (bitter?) tea to drink without telling him what it was, and upon drinking it, sherlock fell and rolled down the stairs with a huge yell ryuu has never heard of. he uses this memory as a pick-me-up when he feels down

it also turns out that iris once gave ryuu black coffee without telling him, and he rolled down the same flight of stairs after drinking it. ryuu reminds her to forget things like this immediately

this post covers what i called the “animated cutscene” at the end of chapter 3, but the correct term should probably be “cinematic cutscene” lmao

the cutscene starts with barok revealing that he borrowed the key to the masked professor wax doll, and tells ryuu and susato that they should see the true face of professor. he unlocks it, revealing the first bomshell: that professor was actually a japanese man. ryuu and susato run over to him in shock, but susato realizes that she recognizes this man’s face, but can’t figure out who this is

at the same time, the second and third bombshell hits in quick succession. the masked disciple, seeing professor’s actual face, starts yelling in pain, suffering as he quickly regains his memories. he then removes the cloak in the most extra way possible and looks up, exclaiming “father....” apparently professor is the disciple’s father.

while barok completely vanishes from the cutscene, the masked disciple walks up to the wax doll and takes off the mask from his face. ryuu’s eyes widen while susato begins to tear up - surprise, our mysterious masked disciple is none other than asougi kazuma! while his amazing new theme plays in the background, asougi looks at ryuu and calls out to him. ryuu’s eyes shut as he’s about to cry. however, he recovers and calls out to his friend

“it’s been a while, my friend.”

susato runs up to asougi in tears, and both of them exchange greetings. asougi commends and thanks her for leading his friend here in his stead. ryuu then joins a smiling asougi and a tearful susato, relieved that asougi is still alive just as they thought. asougi thanks ryuu too, for protecting his sword karma. ryuu returns the sword to him, and asougi walks up to the wax doll.

then the fourth bombshell hits.

asougi: “i’ve finally reached you... father.” ryuu: “wait, so you knew all along that your father was a Horrible Person???” ryuu: (i can’t believe this Horrible Person is asougi kazuma’s father!!!)

asougi then slashes the wax doll in half, not considering that maybe madam rozaic might want it back for her exhibition or something. anyway, with his back turned, asougi tells ryuu that there’s a lot to talk about, but this is not the time. he exits the courtroom after saying “we’ll meet again”, leaving ryuu and susato... oh, and also barok, he’s still here i guess.
