One of the greatest losses to the roster is the Ivo van Hove’s innovative, electrifying revival of West Side Story. The brief life of this show gave us some amazing gifts tho. Among them, another leap forward in Broadway’s long sludge towards diverse representation, and the debut of 33 new Broadway performers! WSS also delivered the big reveal of Dharon Jones, an explosive performer of amazing range who is MANY things, including the culmination of a years-long search for the ideal LoJoWerkz’ protagonist/leading man. We’re blessed that the feelings of kinship flowed both directions & we immediately clicked… and got to work on one of the most important shows of our lives, A Song of Greenwood (a new musical series based on the events surrounding the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.) Dharon Jones is a special kind of beast in this game, to say the least. His performances are like underwater detonations, internally & externally exploding simultaneously, impacting the senses and souls of the audience in split-second waves that you can see coming at you yet still disorient your emotions & carry you away in their wakes. The work this brother has yet to create will rock the planet. Watch.
