The friendship episode is often overlooked by others and treated as an garbage in the entire series, which I completely disagree with. The episode may have less horror scenes, but it builds the characters well. This episode belongs to Yellow, the entire plot revolves around him, which gives us a tremendous insight into how fragile and emotional Yellow is, and what matters most to him are Duck and Red. Yellow doesn't have high expectations. He wants friends he can spend his days with. It's interesting bc the episode didn't give us a single good friend for Yellow. On the one hand, we get Warren, and on the other, Red and Duck. They don't listen to Warren, don't see the reason in their acrions, don't take responsibility. They don't believe Worren's words and place all the responsibility for saving Yellow on him. Only after the tragedy and what happened to Yellow are they able to get any conclusions. We know well that their attitude won't change in next episodes. Duck and Red genuinely love Yellow like a family member, but the selfish, dirty, and secretive Red and the egotistical, loud Duck manage this in their own weird ways. He's part of their group, but in their eyes, he's a sort of accessory. He's just a pet. Duck and Red can live together without Yellow, but Yellow can't be alone or without one of them, and Duck and Red can't live without each other. There's a huge difference between them that's reiterated over and over again throughout the series. Duck and Red rebel very often, and their inability to rebel leads to burnout, which is supposed to mean complete submission to the household. Yellow often submitted to lessons without question, but only as long as the lesson was held with the other two and at home. Red and Duck would never have climbed the stairs. They wouldn't have been given the chance, and if they had, they wouldn't have taken it. Yellow is an empath and the most emotionally developed individual. I can't imagine anyone else taking his place in climbing the stairs. Perhaps most interestingly, Yellow never created or possessed copies of himself or units that looked like him. His imaginary friends are completely different, with different personalities. Yellow, after changing the batteries, is still the same Yellow. It's time to admit that Yellow is being dragged down by Red and Duck, and that Yellow would have achieved more if not for his immense affection for his friends and empathy. The world doesn't deserve you, Yellow.
