The Delaware Historical Society created this short clip about Emily Webb, a 19th century photographer and animal rights activist. Her studio was located not too far from the Research Library in Wilmington. I have researched and learned about photography studios in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Washington, DC, and Delaware through my time at DHS with the Paul Preston Davis exhibit and my class at UD where we researched the “Baltimore Collection” at the Morris Library. I believe this is the first photography studio I’ve come across owned soley by a woman! What an amazing legacy and story to share!
