I hear you. Actually there are two banks across the street I’d like to check out. The next time I’m in Brownsville I’m going to walk the tracks behind the station (and this whole group of buildings) just to check it out. I simply didn’t spend enough time here on my first visit!

This is so cool.... hopefully the officer was cool too

I didn’t have a problem-he was friendly and explained it was a liability issue mostly. I saw him on the approaching street as I was in front of one of the 2nd floor windows in the Railway Express building on the right. I assumed he saw me as I withdrew from his view, and sure enough a moment later I heard the gravel from the cruiser. I yelled to another explorer, and quickly exited. I knew there were others inside, too. It was one big, happy explororama that day!

If you look behind the cruiser and to the right, you’ll see three others he had just evicted. He told me he’d just chased out 8 people, and I nearly laughed. I was standing next to a car (it belonged to the others I’d seen inside) and he asked if it was mine, and when I answered no he started circling back to find the stragglers. I ended up talking to three different groups of explorers outside, in addition to the woman inside who was just absolutely obsessed with the rotting buildings. She was wonderful, helping me find my way and explaining the hazards. She also shared some photos, plus gave me another location. Although I didn’t get to see everything I’d wanted, this was a ton of fun.

If I knew you were in the area. I would have invited you to my little outing this morning.

That’s a very nice gesture, Diane! However, I didn’t go out of town over the weekend--those are previous shots of the Youngstown area. My next trip will probably be Cleveland.

Looks like you were near Youngstown thermal.... they are in financial trouble. Hope they can get it all worked out. I love the steam plant.

Good eye. The Steam Plant is cool, and I’m really surpised it’s still in operation. Erie used to have steam provided in the downtown area by the Penelec Front St. Generating Station until it closed in 1991.

Thanks Diane, and interesting that as soon as I moved beyond the doors a slow-moving pickup truck drove by...and this was the rear of the building with a sprawling parking area. I was sure I was about to have visitors, but the truck kept moving. Later as I was about to leave I noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye, and it startled me. It turned out to be another explorer that I’d already seen at a prior location!
