The Black Rose, or The Art of Flowers. No girls, too bad she doesn’t make crown flowers.
We recently visited Rachel Nina Schwartz, at the place she used to live when she was young in Brentwood,CA.
Rachel is the Owner of The Black Rose, who has created a beautiful and original flower installation at Alfred Coffee for the last couple of weeks.
With a background in art history and a masters in Fashion Design from the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Rachel was a creative consultant in NY while making flower arrangements as a side job .
She connects design and creating flower arrangements because they share the same elements: color, texture, composition and proportions. The difference is that flowers are alive and last only for a limited time. Their presence is powerful and beautiful.
“It was kind of an accident” she said. Her friends asked her to prepare flowers for their weddings, events and photoshoots.
She moved to LA back in 2013 and had a full time job at some flower studios. She was way more creative independently as the possibility to create something from scratch was difficult working there. Consequently, a month ago, she decided to establish The Black Rose as well as working as a freelance.
Why that name? - It just popped into her head. She "likes an edgier/darker, short and memorable name”. It is also a more classic and timeless approach, not just a trendy name.
The Black Rose is where color, texture, composition, proportions are part of design elements with live flowers. Flowers are temporary but their presence can still be powerful.
She will be changing the Alfred orchid installation flowers every 1-2 weeks.
If you need flowers and are looking for a more edgy vibe ...you know who to check out.

Devan Dubois “the man behind the hat... pinapples & rock n' roll.”
To be a Melrose Place local, there a few things that you need to identify yourself with: great style, a cute dog and love coffee.
Devan has not only that, but talent, new song called “People Are People” just released and a recent interview with Twin Magazine. Artist Blahblahblanda was the artist who created his official cover board for his new wave of music+art coming soon.
“This song is about you and this song is about me. ‘People Are People’ is a clue to the new music that I have been creating. It is reflective duration feel good subliminal protest.” said to Twin Magazine.
It totally has that all-day road trip the beach vibe sound.

Devan, 26, writer and musician grew up in Louisiana, lived in Nashville for two years and recently moved to LA. He has been writing since he was 15 years old. Musicians like The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol and Kanye West have inspired him.
His first album “Le Fou”, was inspired by his favorite film “Pierrot Le Fou” from Jean Luc Godard and from a Shakespeare quote “The fool is often the wisest person in the room.” - as some of things are contradictory.
You might hear his old song “Too Many Aces” used on a Kettle Vodka commercial. He tends to use black & white on his covers and his gram feed, but what’s the true meaning behind that? “It may change but predominates. It was a way of seeing the feel as timeless and modern. The content tells the present, while the black and white gives a classic, timeless that will stay. Like if it was there for a while, same happens with the music. It is something strong and evident yet classic.” And that’s the way he describes his music: current and timeless; real and surreal.
