Letter from Dick Winters to George Koskimaki:
I have no idea what that middle initial thing means. I also didn't remember a Edward G. Thomas. Turns out he was the guy who stacked frozen bodies over foxholes in Bastogne. He got on Dick's radar because he was part of the Fox Co patrol on Nov 3rd 1944 and got a Silver Star for it.
He also was picked up by Lewis Nixon in a jeep and brought back to HQ for coffee and blankets.
What Dick says about him in Beyond BoB:
Kinda feeling like he knows his middle initial because he, uh, "noticed him."
Want to default to the guy in the garrison cap being the officer. So here is a dark haired, tall guy, leaning into a blond who already has a guy sitting on his lap. Dick would notice that.
Just like I notice him being transferred to Battalion after that. Going to S-2 and being his S-2 when Welsh gets shot 👀
SO NATURALLY this guy has to have that look that lands him on the Dick!Picks! list:
YUP!! Anyhow, meet our newest addition to Dick's men he noticed. Ed is from Connecticut, though born in Wales, he is a boxing champion with brown hair and hazel eyes standing 5' 11". He also does some insane shit during that patrol which is in his Silver Star commendation here:
