A Bang on the Window Pane
There once was this little girl named Sarah. She loved to play with baby dolls and loved to watch movies where the
main character was a hero, or someone she wanted to be. She always imagined herself one day taking to the sky's like
Clint Clark or something more dark and mysterious like Bruce Wayne. She always wanted to be someone different, someone who
people look up to, to be respected.
She did spend a lot of time practicing for the day she will safe a village from a out of control forest fire, or
maybe when she has to safe the world from demonic aliens that rip peoples heads off with there gigantic claws. She sometimes
scared her mother from all the stories she told in detail, but her mother never thought anything of it.
One day while Sarah was saving her school of barbies from savages with big bug eyes and deadly sharp teeth filled to
the brim with poison, there was a knock on the door. Her mom answered it without any hesitation. It was the police.
"Can I help you officer?" her mother asked with a slight shake in her voice.
"No ma'am. I didn't mean to intrude on what you where doing, but something has come up." he replied.
"Well, what came up? Is everything okay?" she asked, getting very nervous.
"Well, I don't know how to put this in a way not to scare you are worry you in anyway."
"W-What is it?"
"There seems to be a murderer that broke out of jail in the last 48 hours. He is hiding out in this state. I came to tell you
to keep all of your family in the house. Don't go out alone. Only answer the door if you know who it is and never open it
at night. I wish you a good night ma'am. Be safe."
The officer slowly turned without another word, the mother was to shocked to say anything or thank him. If she should
have even thanked him.
"Well now what?" she said, usually her "I give up" phrase.
"What happened mommie?" Sarah question, playing dumb because she over heard the entire conversation.
"Well sweetie, there is a bad man out there and you have to stay with me at all times okay? No more playing out side for a while
I'm sorry but that is how its going to be."
She knew she shouldn't be happy about this news, but she is. She is happy because she thinks it is her time. Well it is in
a totally twisted kind of way. She thinks she could finally have her chance in saving the community by stopping this bad man and
returning him to his captivity in the county jail. She would be praised and always remembered. Now no one can forget her name or
face.
Sarah decided that that night would be the night. She starts to plan her attack. She would start getting everything ready
when her mom goes to bed so she isn't questioned and has to make up a excuse to not get into trouble.
When her mom is finally in her room, that's when she springs into action. She puts on her all black sweat outfit, with her
black tennis shoes. She packs her backpack and stuffs it with water and snacks, she really doesn't know when she will be back. She is prepared for even the longest of weeks.
After that she grabs her bright neon cape and ties it heroically around her neck. She even does a little pose in the mirror to practice
for when she has to take her picture for the towns newspaper, so everyone can see her heroic nature and her bravery.
The next part of the plan was the most tricky part. Getting out of her two story window with out waking up her mom.
Now she has sneaked out of her room before, so she has no idea why she was so nervous. It was just a little jump down to the other balcony and then she just needs to slide down a pole to get down to the ground. Maybe she was scared because this was her first
real mission to get out and save some people. She thinks that once she passed this one, her next one will become more easier.
So she jumps.
The mother wakes up. She was woken up by a really loud bump. It sounded like it came from the window.
Her natural reaction was to run to her daughters room and call the cops. So thats exactly what she did, but
there was one thing that was wrong. She couldn't find Sarah. She just ran to the phone and dialed 911 with out even doing a quick
search around the house to see if her daughter was using the bathroom.
"911. What is your emergency?" the dispatcher pronounced.
"I CAN'T FIND MY BABY GIRL!" the mother didn't even give a moments hesitation before screaming into the receiver.
"Okay ma'am just calm down and explain everything to me. I am sending a patrol man out to your location."
"I heard a loud bang on my window and I went to go check on my daughter. When I open-" the mother could not finish.
"Hello? Ma'am? Are you still there?"
Sarah's mom stopped everything. She was very distracted by the strange sight that she was watching. Something blowing
in the wind she guesses.
All she saw was a little hint of neon, just outside the window. The wind picked up and she saw a more define shape of the
bright cloth. It looked very similar to the one her daughter wears when she is pretending to fight crime.
She, ever so slowly, went to the window and pulled up the curtain to see what the cape was attached to. All she did was
scream.
The funeral was a few days later. Sarah's mom dressed her in a beautiful green summer dress. She even put the cape
around her like a blanket. It could get very cold when you are six feet under the ground. Her mom would like her to be warm,
or "Snuggley Wuggley" as Sarah used to call it. The thought of it made her cry harder than she already was. Anyone with a
daughter, or son for that matter, knows how hard it is when their beloved child is ill or in pain, but do they know what it feels like to never hold there little babies in her arms ever again? It pains her so deeply. What hurts her most is still being able to see the marks on her neck
from where the cape had strangled her.
She wants to know why. Her little girl jumping from the second story window. Is it really true that she was trying to help save the world? Well, whatever she was trying to do, she should of left the cape off. It seems that the
bottom of the cape got caught on the end of a out of place brick on the side of the house and hung her little baby girl. Sarah never struggled or anything. She knock her self out when she jumped. She hit her head on the house, creating a loud bang on the window pane.
