John De Lancie on Days of Our Lives in 1982.
Easily the most bat-shit soap story arc ever: Marlena Evans of "Days of Our Lives" gets possessed by a demon in a plot line that seems to have strayed in from "Dark Shadows" or "Strange Paradise." I can remember watching this with my jaw agape. I can't even begin to imagine the sheer amount of cajoling producers had to stoop to in order to get Deidre Hall to come out of her dressing room to film scenes in which she levitates, tries to strangle her daughter, cackles maniacally, battles her babe-like priest (!) hubby, and has to wear a dime-store Halloween demon costume. Utter, shameless trash, and I loved every second of it.
Remarked producer Ken Corday: "Here's this wonderful, goddess of beauty, wisdom, and light, and she's floating around with green eyes doing horrible things. That's an eye opener."
