The hateful old biddy I'm forced to sit next to keeps making flippant remarks about my 'dark' skin. Keep in mind that she looks like a skinny, old, frail Yaphet Kotto about the face(you youngins can Google it) who is about as dark as Trumps soul. When did it become the norm for strangers or distant acquaintances to get into personal and racially triggering conversations with people whose names they barely know or don't even know the actually person at all? Skin is merely just that, SKIN. Black, white or any other, doesn't matter, it all cuts and bleeds just the same. No matter what your skin color we all hurt the same, we all grieve when suffering a loss, we all struggle to maintain sanity in an insane world, we all worry about the future, fear for our childrens safety and dread the day when we have to bury a dear loved one. And what we NOT finna' do is attempt to bring others down because they don't look like the airbrushed, Photoshopped women on the covers of magazine. Now I'm not beautiful, I know this, always have. I'm a Plain Jane, that's just facts but never, EVER have I ever been beautiful and never will I EVER be beautiful and I'm okay with that. But I will never allow ANYONE to attempt to make me feel shame, embarrassment and less than for the hue of my skin and not passing the ignorant based paper bag test.
