iDK IF THIS IS UNPOPULAR LOL but i feel like ppl here are s o fu ckin st uc k up, and i don’t mean in the “i have put time and effort and heart into my character, therefore i feel like i deserve to pride myself in knowing that i understand them better than others” way. bc i understand that feeling and i’m really proud of ppl who are brave enough to give themselves credit like that.

i mean it in the sense of ppl in the community judging the merit or validity of someone’s talent based on how poetic and fake deep they are (you gotta have mad photoshop skills and unnecessarily fancy as shit tags and a master’s degree in html coding to matter here). but then those same ppl condemn shit like purple prose (and i will even attest to being guilty of this in the past before i realized that it was literally just a step in growing as a writer and no less valid than any other).

like i’ve been here for a very long time, and aside from all the hiatuses, my popularity has been stagnant largely because i didn’t come into the game with any concept of formatting or graphic design, and because i was still a green writer. people saw me grow instead of just seeing something really put-together (i’ve been here for years and i’m still not put together, @god help me). and don’t get me wrong, i’m so happy to see new ppl coming in every day with experience and sharing it with the community– it’s awesome.

but the thing is that, i feel like we’re starting to expect that experience from the get-go, and it’s as if there’s this hidden attitude of “it’s ok to grow as long as we can’t see it. we’re only interested in the advanced stuff.” it’s fine to have preferences– it’s great to be aware of what kind of writing inspires you and to choose interactions based on that, it makes this more fun. but side-eyeing shit like “purple prose” and looking down on people who are growing and experimenting and playing with vocabulary to see what they’re comfortable with is so gross.

and y’know, maybe those people aren’t experimenting and are comfortable with a very poetic style that y’all seem to hate?? that’s completely valid and there is going to be someone who is inspired by that writing?? so fek off oh my go d i gOT SO SOUR BUT THIS GRINDS MY ASS AND I HATE IT LET ME LI VE
