Doctor Who and the Armageddon Child
It had been a few weeks since the TARDIS had left Gallifrey. A few weeks since the Sontarans invaded, and outwardly thwarted, and the Time Lords were saved once again. Such is the business for one such person.
Inside the Console Room was a tall, curly haired man in a long, striped scarf, and a red-velvet frock coat, as he walked around the Console switching levers, turning dials, steering the TARDIS through the Time Vortex. As it had been a few weeks since the invasion on Gallifrey, so too has it been a few weeks since he left his dear companion, Leela, behind. His robotronic, K-9, would elect to stay with her as well.
People come and go. Such is life for the mysterious traveler in time and space known only as the Doctor.
Companions like Leela were often irreplaceable.
But, as machines go, that particular K-9 would become Mk. I.
In the same area as the Doctor, was a similarly built robotronic dog that had a box-like design, various buttons on the top frame, with red optics that had a retractable analyzer dish in the visor, and satellite ears that could swivel. On the snout was a barrel that retracted within the nose for a newly constructed stun beam, and a slot on the mouth where paper tape could be printed out.
One side would have a monitor for visual readouts, and the other had “K-9” emboldened into the metal. This machine would be dubbed by the Doctor as K-9 Mk. II.
The past few weeks were spent tinkering with both the TARDIS as well as K-9, and things had become relatively quiet. Leaning against the console, the Doctor was deep in thought.
K-9, sensing the stop in activity, rolled up to the Time Lord.
“Master?” K-9 asked. “Is there something that troubles you?”
The Doctor shook his head. “Not at all, K-9.” He said. “I just feel that we need a holiday. A nice, and long holiday.”
K-9 wiggled his wire tail. “May we take one, Master?”
He looked down at the robotronic, flashing a toothy grin. “Would you like a holiday, K-9?”
“Affirmative!”
The Doctor laughed. “Sounds good to me, I think!” He proclaimed as he flipped a few more levers. “Let's see... I think sometime in the near future sounds apropos after being in the Vortex for so long. You'll love Earth, K-9! I think somewhere within Europe or Asia would make for a wonderful holiday!”
Resetting the coordinates, the Doctor aimed to land on Earth, with a particular time in mind.
1st January, 2016.
The Doctor smiled as the TARDIS began to land at its destination. The coordinates would read that he had landed somewhere within “Tokyo-3”. His eyebrows perked up. He had never thought of there being multiple Tokyos. The fact that a third one popped up must mean that their technology had advanced far more quickly than he had realized.
The Time Rotor stopped, and the TARDIS had arrived. Grabbing his hat from the stand, he flipped the door switch, revealing the exterior blue doors of the disguised Police Box. “I'll be back in a while, K-9!” He said. “I’m going to check this out myself!” The Doctor would pull the doors and exit the TARDIS, smiling widely as he expected to see a metropolis that was sprawling, due to the advancements of mankind.
However... this would not be the case.
Instead, his smile had faded, and his eyes widened in horror. The sky was pitch black, the stars twinkling brightly as the moon light shined down on the apocalyptic landscape. Buildings lay toppled over or in a state of decay, as if they were ravaged by the passage of time, long forgotten. The ocean was a deep, crimson red, as if fresh blood washed upon the shores.
The Doctor closed the doors in a state of shock. Walking a bit from the TARDIS, he could see more of the horrifying sights. He noticed there were giant figures that stood tall in a crucified position. Wheeling back behind him, he gasped as he saw a giant, halved head of what appeared to be a young girl. Her eye remaining open and her mouth slightly agape, as if she were smiling.
Eyes glanced up, before noticing the moon. There was a red streak over the lunar surfaces, as if it looked like it was bleeding.
The Time Lord then took note of where he landed. He was on a beach, overlooking the blood red sea. Overcome with emotion, he took his hat off, and dropped to his knees.
“...There's nothing left...” He said to himself. “What happened...?”
