I want to buy a pair of super discounted Beats headphones. If you know me, you know I love music and enjoy a quality pair of headphones, and for less than $80!!??? That's amazing! However, I've realized that there are things greater than what I want. Will my $80 do anything compared to the millions of dollars made on Black Friday and during the following weeks leading up to Christmas? Maybe not, but I know that my decision to not spend $80 at a retail store is something that 80 other people can do and each of them will perhaps convince 80 other people to #BoycottBlackFriday. Save your money, spend it at a Black owned/local owned business, or donate it to something that will improve the condition of our people (like economicblueprint.org). Keep your money out of the hands of those who oppress you. The bottom line is that the people have the power, but we have been too afraid and too blind to use it. So for once, let's send a message to the "powers that be." Let's show them that we are not playing anymore and that we will stand against injustice here to begin the fight against injustice everywhere. We always talk about making the change or being the change, let's put our money where our mouth is because money in this case is louder than words. I honestly do not care if this boycott does not create massive loss to corporate businesses, but I am proud and excited to be a part of the initiative to create significant and relevant change in our society. I've noticed that I get a lot of likes/retweets, etc on social media for acting conceited, posting a selfie, or cracking a joke. Well, I'm tired of taking the power of social media for granted. I am tired of words with no action.
