My Job
TL;DR: A consulting criminal has much more variety to his work than I do. I collect information for others, usually criminals. He has a whole web to do whatever he wants. I can offer a map, but he holds the keys.
I’ve been asked a few times now what the difference is between criminal logistics and a consulting criminal. There are quite a few, even if the basics are similar. Yes, we both deal in weaknesses and how to exploit them, how to bring about someone’s death or misfortune. But that’s about it.
I suppose you could call my job a form of sociology or psychology. I watch people, track them, figure out routines, associates, pressure points, any information I need to complete my job. Then I report back. For the right price, I can get my hands dirty. I usually deal in hand to hand combat as opposed to being a sniper, but I do keep a few weapons on me. The gist of my job is figuring out what makes people tick, getting inside their brains so I know what buttons do what. But I’m not the one pulling the strings. I simply tell whoever’s hired me what they need to know. They do the rest. Sort of like providing a map of a cave system and sending them on their way.I could offer suggestions on the easiest path, but that depends on the pay.
My job is also mostly solitary. I make a few acquaintances here and there, but I rarely work with others. Someone hires me, I track a target, I report back. Simple enough when you understand people. I may not be able to deduce like a certain criminal Napoleon, but I understand people’s motives and habits well enough. With enough information, I can decipher where someone is likely to be at a given time, who they’re likely to turn to when under stress, and where they may try to hide if they feel threatened. I also know who they’d do anything for. I gather this information through observation in many forms, depending on what’s needed.
I don’t have my fingers in near as many pies as a consulting criminal. I have one job and no employees. I certainly don’t have any criminal web to consult or any bodyguards. It’s a pretty simple gig compared to him.
