Differential Gears
Since i don't do anything related to cars or gears and stuff, every now and then ill see a differential gear mechanism doing its arcane function and ill have forgotten how they work entirely.
This demonic spinning creation is what im talking about for anyone who doesn't know:

Being a creature of curiosity, whenever i remember this strange device, it drives me to search for a helpful explainer guide on YouTube to explain to me a thing about differential gears.
Because, just, what do you mean this is a useful mechanism in every single car and not just a spiny gizmo designed to look complex???
And this being a thing I have done on no less than 3 separate occasions, it always amazes me that the best explanation is a black and white educational video from 1937???
Like surely people have made more modern explanations with a fancier presentation, I even see some of them on the search results page. But the top result, almost every time ive checked has been this amazing video:
(note, the intro bit has nothing to do with differentials and instead just has a bunch of sick-ass OSHA-violating motorcycle tricks)(skip to 1:45 for the differential stuff)
Idk I just think there's something really neat about the timelessness of teaching and how this knowledge can't be outdated since it's just basic mechanical principles explained very well. I wonder what the creators of this film would think about it being used to explain the concept of differential gears to people in 2025?
Like no other modern explainer animation (at least that ive seen) has simplified the mechanism to this extent. Its the only thing ive found that makes this behavior feel intuitive to any degree.
