Honestly, at least at my institution, this is an advisor-by-advisor thing. It helps to like talk to current grad students and get a feel for what the group expectations are. (You can also ask an advisor this point blank -- it’s bold, but it wouldn’t be unusual.)

I can’t support over working students from a safety perspective but also from a cost perspective. There are times that I can think of that I would like to do an experiment but it would not have been efficient, I would not have been good at it, etc. but by waiting one day and getting more advice or something, it runs so much more smoothly. Experimenting for the sake of making an hour quota doesn’t benefit anybody.  I am also lucky enough to work at a school that considers mental health of graduate students to be part of safety culture.

I never did Co-Op, but if you desire to apply to Graduate school Summer REU's and research is a must

My university is pretty small and doesn’t have much in the way of research experience for undergrads.

There’s no summer research program. The only thing my university brings up is the possibility of professors hiring student research assistants and research scholarships (but my GPA is too low for that).

I might email my professors and ask if its possible for me to volunteer to help them with their research. My schedule this term is pretty laid back.

In 4th year, there’s an opportunity to do a professor assisted research project as a course, as well.

I’m not sure if I’ll do grad school, but I’m keeping my options open.

Can organic chemistry be slytherin? I mean potions.

Okay, first of all there is no inherent connection between slytherin and potions. Just because Snape was head of slytherin house and also the potions master doesn’t mean that slytherin == potions.

And secondly, no. Ochem == chem == hufflepuff

How many credits are you taking? I'm taking 20 and work 20 and thought I had a hectic schedule.

My uni determines the credits per course so some are 3 credits, other 6 and so... But I'm taking 11 courses, that's 31 theoretical hours and 3 lab hours. And I'm trying to get a job in my faculty, that's another 20 hours ;-;
