[Watch] Luke Bryan Pays Tribute to Randy Travis As the Country Legend Looks On
Luke Bryan closed out CMA Fest 2018 with an epic set that went well after midnight. While 70,000 country fans were in attendance during his show at Nashville's Nissan Stadium, so was one very special country legend: Randy Travis. The "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)" singer didn't notice Randy until several songs into his set and once he spotted him, Luke went into an impromptu cover performance of Randy's well-known hits "On the Other Hand" and "Diggin' Up Bones." Luke began "On the Other Hand" alone on guitar before his band eventually joined in with delicate percussion accompaniment. Meanwhile, Randy looked on from a seat in the audience and was all smiles watching the country heartthrob pay tribute to his music. At one point, Randy could be seen mouthing along to the words of his 1986 hit, "On the Other Hand." "I've been wanting to sing to you for a long time, buddy," Luke said following his performance. "That was unrehearsed. I didn't know you were going to be here. I hope you enjoyed it! I love you. Thank you." Later, he'd confess to the audience: "We just might maybe make it a Randy Travis hour in here tonight, how 'bout that?" Luke also took some time to sing Randy's "Diggin' Up Bones," which was also a chart topper in late 1986. Following his performance, Luke thanked his band for winging his two impromptu covers of the legend's massive catalog. "We love you, Randy! Give it up for my band back here," Luke said. "My band is like, 'What the hell are you doing, Luke? We have not rehearsed this.'" Luke's performance closed out the annual country music festival in Nashville. Held throughout four days, June 7-10, CMA Fest had close to 90,000 country fans visiting the city to witness daily performances and take part in meet-and-greets with their favorite country artists.
